Need some advice...

Post by dignan » Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:20 am

So I wanna try sending my tunes to labels, DJs, file sharing websites, etc. but I'm a little confused on a couple things. First off - I'm not sure whether the music I make is considered dubstep, it has some dubstep elements, i.e. - tempo, syncopation, sub bass, but I feel like my music is more melodic than most dubstep. Sometimes I'll sit down and try to make a wobbler, not because then one of my tunes will sound more dubby, but because I really like some wobbley songs, but 99% of the time I scrap the idea and return to something "more my style". The question I have is, which labels and or DJs should I put trying to get my songs to since they're not considered dubstep I.M.O. ? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you wanna hear my tunes so you can understand more what I'm talking about, my soundcloud link is in my sig.

Your stuff reminds me of 2562. 2562 is sometimes classified as dubstep, however, hes more minimal house / electro with bits of dubstep thrown in for shits and giggles. Listen to his song called Closer, its got funky bass lines similar to your song throwback. So if you really need a label, I would classify your music as minimalist / techno . Its obvious you like what you make and you got some decent tunes, so good luck in finding your niche. I couldn't really tell ya on where to look but get to know local DJs, talk on forums, aim, network, etc. Hope I helped.

To everyone posting links in their sigs - I've turned sigs off. I CANNOT read this forum now when sigs are on. I can't tell who is saying what, etc etc etc.

So if you want someone to listen, maximize your chances, by actually putting the links in your post.
