Ok so I've been producing for a bit. But I just recently purchased turntables and have some vinyl.

Is Serato worth the extra money? I found M-Audio Torq for $249.99 the cheapest I've seen Serato is $519.99. What are the main differences? NO this is not for performance use, this is for bedroom use only.
Also, can you turn off the song visuals in either of the programs? I don't want to beatmatch with my eyes. Get me?

In all seriousness, Torq will probably cut it for just bedroom use. As I understand it, Serato is more reliable and feels more like vinyl, but there's no reason you can't get by without it.

Anyother diffrences in the features?

The torq software is pretty rubbish IMO

I use the connectiv box but with Image Lines Deckadance and acutally prefer this setup to Serato. Serato is very good dont get me wrong but i prefer the Connectiv box + Deckadance

Honestly I think the Torq sofware is the best of the bunch except for the browser. I have heard some people use iTunes in concert but for one I like to have Torq fullscreen and for two I don't use iTunes. Anyway I have used Torq out live for 2 years now, it is fine. I think I might be upgrading to Serato tho because a lot of times the box is already set up for you. If I don't have to mess around with the wires to dj then I am happy.

ah suppose its alright just for bedroom mixing then. would want to buy serato when i get some bills.

Don't even consider Torq.. you'll just end up regretting it and wishing you hadn't been so cheap.

I'd say get Traktor or Serato.

i use my xponent to take up space and set shit on top of. serato all the way especially with 2.0 coming out. i have an sl3 so ill be able to use a third deck so pumped. so ill have my regular 2 decks in serato and a third deck controlling the transport in ableton and then launching clips with my launchpad. plus the new built in fx

Serato hands down. Its a question that gets beat to death, and the answer never changes.

yeah... was going to install serato on my comp for the times I show up at the club and they have the box connected to the mixer

if you buy torq, get the Ms. Pinky 45rpm vinyls and you are fine

been using it for almost 3 years and haven't had any issues since I upgraded to the new software version

lets not forget to mention that Torq has VST support for all your favorite FX

Suprised people aren't more into Traktor Scratch Duo... It's just a little bit up in price from Torq and Reloop products but way more stable (Traktor engine has had a longer development period) and it's way cheaper then serato.

We (soundsystem setup) bought it a couple of weeks ago... We already played 2 gigs, both around 6 or 7 hours. With about 30% normal records in between, and stable as hell. Never gonna need the pro version... Who needs 30 effects, 4 deck support and MIDI anyway?

I use Torq hardware with Image Line's "Deckadance" software.

Never crashed on me, no hang ups, super simple use. Great browser too.

Serato 2.0 makes it possible to shut off the waveform display and use just the markers. 2.0 is a free upgrade which should be out in a month or two according to the Serato forums.

Honestly? Are you using the term Serato as a catchall for all DVS systems?

Ive never had it crash and never seen it crash. Ive had mine since 05 - version 1.2 shipped in the box. Never a crash. Not once. I use two computers way below spec for it too. Torq on the other hand crashed the only two times Ive used it, and only with partial functionality before the crash. This was on the same computer I had Serato installed on at the time, which is an iBook G4 1.33gHz with 1GB of ram.

Personally, Id pick Serato over all the rest because of the simplicity and how Serato handles its customer service, updates etc. All I want it for is to play files as if they were vinyl. I dont need rewire support, vsts, multiple decks, effects or any of that (although all that stuff is coming in 2.0 if you do want it), I just want it to feel like vinyl, and from what Ive used so far it does exactly that with no problems, and is always setup in the club when I get there to spin. I have yet to see another DVS system permanently installed in a club.

if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Serato but want a step up from Torq, I'd suggest looking at some Traktor packages.
