Who remembers when Plastician , Distance , Mala and Coki broke the top 50 on the Peel chart for 2004? I'll never forget that. Part of history now!

#19, #29 and #42

Profound words right there. Just a familiar voice, amazing selection, great ear for what is gonna be big in the future YEARS later... I don't think he necessarily shaped music, but definitely opinions about it. I learned about so much music through his sessions. And even the stuff you already knew about... every show was worth listening to.

I don't believe in heroes or Idols in general, but i've got to make exception for this man, a true legend.

despite his crap choice of football team - enternal props, one of the most important humans, full stop.

read his memoir. people don't realize that he shaped the whole face of radio 1. let alone jump starting hundreds of bands, and their careers.

RIP Peel, greatest DJ of all time and a thoroughly decent human being.

:z: Love this man so much he as was by and large my musical education when I were a yout.1st time I heard dancehall/roots -peel show,hip-hop - peel show, dubstep - peel show, techno - peel show, etc, etc. Not forgetting the mighty Fall as well for which I am eternally grateful. As mentioned by Deams earlier that grime special was a belter too, seem to remember him saying "astonishing, simply astonishing" at the end.http://www.getdarker.com/files/0d0195f0 ... fad1eecb0/
.Really funny bloke too;I distinctly remember one show where he'd just played an Ed Rush And Optical track only to receive a frothing email/text along the lines of "for god's stop playing that horrible rubbish".Peelie abruptly stops the track, leans into the Mic and says softly "now Peter what I suggest you do now is go and switch off the radio, find your favourite Blue CD,sit in your favourite armchair and relax.I'm sure you will find this of great comfort to you" :)

on radio 4 the other day he was called a "british national treasure". he'd be pretty blown away by that statement.

I see my old Peel Sessions getting rinse today. Much respect for the man. He put tons of bands on the map.
