Stop trying to write that amazing song that will make people sit up and notice,

one more thing while we are on this topic, who was it happen to and when? was there any major consequences?
E.g if your on a publishing deal, so of course your making music everyday as a living and they expect you to be turning out a number of songs in your deal (songs that got picked not the number of songs you make of course) ?

I tried, but I can't follow the question.

Are you talking about having writer's block in relation to creating songs based on one's record deal?

definitely this. My current tune almost fell victim to this. So I've taken a week and a half off of that one

This can help tons in getting out of the writer's block!

well im learning piano atm so i can "learn to write" better should i stop doing that?

but for real some good advice, in here. i already do some of em, eg. havin a spliff and watchin a movie

Top tips! Also go back over your old unfinished files and loops you started but never went back to.

stop smoking in the studio! stop eating lunch in the studio!

take breaks and feel those breaks!
go out, have a walk, smoke your cigarette just while you're doing the break. (tea&cigarette rules!)

get impressions from outside, especially now in automn, the colors are quite fascinating... ...inspiring!

open the window of your studio!

WORK SYSTEMATICALLY!

I always begin with a beat. 1 bar.
then i get on with the beat, 2 bars
till 4 or 8 bar. then i will have a complex beat. as soon as i have a beat, i compplete that beat with some little effect spicing up that beat. make a break, smoke, drink tea. then the subbass comes. (side chain it, it's motivation to hear that it sounds great! )

and so on...

Wasn't sure if that one would be interpreted correctly,

It meant to make each song your working on a learning experience, as opposed to going through the internet trying to "learn how to write a song".

The same difference between an apprenticeship and a qualification, one teaches you how to do a job through reading about it, the other teaches you by just doing it

@vv - this one can be really important (depending on the producer I guess)

for me being able to load up a new session that already has a couple of reverbs set up, multiple buses for drums, kicks, snares all in a logical order means I can spend more time getting that initial idea down rather than trying to set up al the routing for your project

yeah having a template is ill. just get in and get on with it.





and I need to get back into the making drum patterns all day. that really helps me as well, having drum patterns ready. I don't start with melody, drums always.

yea i got a 808 kit ready to go, play the rhythm, replace the sounds after.

Don't mix as u go, just write the song, even if there is something you don't like, don't worry about it for now, just move ahead as quickly as you can to get the song structure down. Once u have the song laid out, it will suggest the solutions to all of the problems that remain in the track.

This is exactly one of my problems, being an engineer I feel I need to make every single thing sound perfect before I move on, and then I completely lose my flow.

Will need to try writing a track without mixing it till the end one day, seems like the right way to see if this helps,

not always the best way to go....

if you have a more chaotic process that isn't just 6 elements intertwining you could spend a week on something that could have been only a few hours work

don't smoke shit when you have a block...

...smoke when you're in the flow!
(at least that's what I do, if i roll it and hope it gives me some inspiration, it won't! shit doesn't blow your mind with inspiration when it's anyway empty. it blows my the mind when it's already full of inspiration but can't really make an order... shit will fix that!)
