atmospherics...

been listening to a lot of reso stuff recently and have been trying to replicate the amazing atmospheric sounds he has it a lot of his tunes, particularly in the breakdowns. a good example would be Otacon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ochlM5qmSY). also the breakdown of When I Look At You is an another idea of what i want to achieve..

as far as i can tell its a combination of lots of verb, delay, and creative use of pads/string samples, am i close?? having trouble producing anywhere near the standard of what he comes out with though..

lots of different parts = interest

lots of different parts = cluttered mix

use of careful eq can result in a more coherent mix,

try it

listen to ambient or atmospheric lps or tunes non dubstep or close to and break it down
way i look at it is to be human and evolve it human like with emotion to fit the tune. kinda like natural drums

The easiest way to do lush floating pads is to layer choir and strings together with a fuck load of reverb,

I like to pitch down vocals or background recordings, reverse them, glitch them up a bit. Then add loads of reverb. Some nice background atmospheres can be made like that.

Don't forget to pan the crap out of everything. Mess around with Phase reversal too.

Not heard much of him before (not really into this style of Dubstep). What is he using to make sounds like this? has so much going and it does not sound muddy at all. I struggle to get that much down without running into problems even with EQ/filters on everything!

It sounds like he has loads of different bassline sounds going on at the same time. Has he just split the bassline into different layers? would love to see what his DAW looks like with one of his finished tunes.

Thanks for that. I did not know you were a regular on here.

You have as much down as I thought you may. That is logic I think, right? whats the audio on the left, are they all vsts or a mixture of VSTs and samples on something like an audio channel? Is thyere any difference to the ones below that have names or are they just unnamed channels?

All the Blue blocks are audio, all the green blocks are VST's. Ignore the channel names, i'm not a big fan of naming channels unless it's something i really need to remember where/what it is. VST tracks automatically name themselves in logic.
I bounce down lots of stuff to audio and add more effects/edit etc, but keep the VST channel there incase i need to tweak it later.

tbh generally when i automate something i'll bounce it down and re-insert as audio, or if it's a bassline/midrange sound i'll just duplicate the channel and change the settings rather than automate. In this final arrange there really isn't that much automation to be seen as i've already rendered the heavily automated parts.

Sounds like such an alien way to work to me but I guess it works:)

Maybe if I bounce things down and insert as audio I will spend less time trying to tweak things and then get more done in the end.

How many different basslines of audio do you have for that tune someone mention in the first post, Otacon.

the pics i posted are the Otacon arrange.
I think there's about 16 or 17 different bass parts. Some are still VST, some i rendered to audio to tweak a little bit more.

Wow, that many eh? I guess this is quite normal for conventional Dubstep.

Thanks for the info.
