so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
OK so,
The UK, has always been, and will always be a really confusing melting pot of sounds and scenes, and we wouldn't have it any other way right?
Dubstep has shared 50/50 tunes, remixes, club night collaborations with Minimal/Dub Techno, Grime, Funky, UKG and moe.
But it seems one scene that Dubstep hasn't crossed over with at any real point is Bassline, you know that wierd warpy shit from the Midlands?
One thing which high lighted this to me is when I used to work with bad yoots and the kids all loved Niche/Bassline even though there was no where to buy it or listen to it in Nottingham, but if you got Derby, Birmingham, Sheffield, Leiscter etc, you can't get away from it.
Seems a bit odd they have never really crossed, apart from Night, which the Bassline and the Funky scene called their own briefly.
It's funny coz as much as the wobblas drive me up the wall these days in Dubstep, I dont mind em when there are 50000 of them in one bar flying up and down octaves like crazy.
Why do you think this is?

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
because it wasn't accepted in london, sad but true, if u look at all the other genres u listed they were all accepted and played in london. people like cameo, naughty and rekless tried to break it but failed. paleface who ran one of the better labels jumped ship to uk funky and people like e.j,duggan, banger scott etc are content with running things up north
saying that alot of my friends from midlands who used to bang bassline 247 are tleling me its fallen off, they all listen 2 road rap now. a friend of mine used to make tunes with JTJ Productions who were pretty big in that scene and got some bookings at dirty canvas etc but it seems as if things just died down. it happens. same happened with grime, which is now a dead scene.
i dont know if u ever went to a bassline rave but i been to a couple in sheff, manny and leicster and to be honest there is only so much of it u can take. the same sound gets rinsed all night and almost every drum pattern is identical.

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
bassline djs play dubstep (eg 'night') because some dubstep sounds like bassline.
dubstep djs don't play bassline, i'm guessing cos none of it sounds like dubstep.
mind you lots of dubstep doesn't even sound like dubstep anymore so it's anyone's guess.

It depressed me somewhat that bassline was huge in Ibiza last year...
I pray for the day dubstep makes it big out there...

it definitely did in the states. tough to find the bassline tunes here that stand up-- so much of is it so disposably produced.

Nichestep.
People were talking about this during the rag and bone show last night, apparently rogue state plays what he calls nichestep. it does exist.

could say the same thing about Raggeton (not sure if thats how you spell it). all songs sound the same and yet its LOVED latin countries.dhaywood wrote:almost every drum pattern is identical.
bassline isnt really my cuppa tea though, dont mind the odd track though, couldnt take a whole night.
i dont think a crossover with dubstep and bassline would really work, can picture it really without it sounding really cheesy

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
Basslines pretty popular amongst my group of friends since most of them know a few successful DJ's from Notts, but it does seem to be dieing out quite a bit. Most of my close friends seem to be gravitating more to Dubstep these days.
Some Basslines alright in my oppinion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWRmou90_OE Can anyone recognize Blueprint in this video?

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
not that im big or anything but i like to chuck in some bassline tunes in my sets, i dnt have that much owing to struggling to find a huge amount i like, but a bit of piddy py a bit of wideboys doesnt do no harm.

!! Theres your answer!JimmaJamJamie wrote:Because Bassline is shit!
I have came from the bassline scene, and the reason i moved was because of its lack of quality of good music!
i watched the scene develop from its early days, it all started with speed garage (which is still class) and then that moved onto bassline, then bassline house then organ and now 4x4 to which people think 4x4 is bassline
4x4 is not bassline, its a batty man on Fl or Reason thinking they are the don because they can press two notes on a keyboard !
shit sound production shit engineering, well wait that don't even no what that means, they just press the bounce button!
The amount of songs that i have received that the vocals are off key to the track my days..
If you think the brutal electro patch thing is bad think again thats a small joke compared to the 4x4 thing, everyone sounds is the same you cant tell what from what, bass tones are shared around because they cba to learn so they can people to just send tones, drums kits all the same, mix down << LOL lets not go there.
Sorry for the hash comment, its not directed at you but coming from a guy who have watched it develop seen the 99s ish trust me bassline/4x4 plus dubstep = will kill everything !

Doesn't surprise me about R8, even the RSD plate has a dark bassliney feel to it, intentional or not
