Does anybody have any inkling of information for this type of sound creation within Reason 4 or any other DAW?

You can sample the Transformer film like about a million other people did.

You can even find trailers for the film that have shit loads of sounds.

i was going to say that, but thats no fun

ive been trying to emulate some of these sounds myself every now and then over the last couple of months

not come up with anything too great just yet, but certainly enjoying tinkering with all manner of sounds to see what i can create

You could tinker around with trying to make that sound for years or more tbh.

Make some music instead:D

you can just buy a portable mic/recorder and keep it with you/in your car and record random noises. going to a junk yard and smashing things can be cool sometime, not that hard to process into crazy morphing sounds. or if u know of any places that have hydraulics (any kind at all) get on that shit!

if you want to make shit like that from scratch you have to combine a TON of different sounds and just have things constantly switching and as much movement as you can possibly do. (tons of automation on every sound....filters, fx, pitch bends etc)

or combine all 3 ways of doing it... smash together samples with shit you made from scratch and sounds you recorded for a total shitmix of controlled chaos (how i usually do it)

reverb, delay, bit-crush, flange, modulation, timestretch, pitch-bend, resample.

all you will ever need to create robo FX.

(and a bit of imagination of course.)

dunno exactly what you mean with transformer sound, but if you mean the sound you hear when a transformer morphs thats pretty easy

in FL I use a fruity love philter, set it on HP and fuck around with the XY controller.... I believe with a saw you can recreate the exact sound

Thankyou so much for this creative insight! I'm going to go out and buy a mic and make something happen.

Let me repeat...

You need to spend a serious amount of time on sound design before you can even begin thinking about adding drums & bass or doing your arrangement. This means learning how to push the limits of your synths, samplers and effects through experimentation.

-------------------------------------------

Get your favourite synth out, and mess with every possible combination of controls just to push the limit of what it can sound like. Save each patch and even bounce down samples of each patch playing at different pitches. Bouncing down to audio allows you to reverse, time stretch and cut up each patch you make, which is essentially for exciting glitch and transformer sounds. If you feel shit at sound design, download this free ebook which describes in detail how to achieve various sounds ---> http://noisesculpture.com/htman_free.html or read this thread ---> http://www.dubstepforum.com/topic91539.html

Once you have amassed a good collection of interesting patches and samples, you need to get to work on processing them with effects. Again, the aim of the game is to push the limit of each effect you own. Sequence very short automated sequences of your effects and bounce them down to audio too.

Next, start a fresh project and load up some of your samples, and get to work arranging those samples with which ever drums and instruments you would normally use. Automate new effects on top of this arrangment. When you are happy with it, solo each individual track and bounce the whole thing.

Finally, load up all your bounced tracks into a fresh project, and get to work simply cutting it up and rearranging each part. Add more automation, more effects and more one shot samples between edits.

-------------------------------------------

Well, there you have it... Don't forget to send me a copy of whatever you make! :4:

Just cuz I'm feeling kind, I'll give ya an example using Reason.

Fire up the Malstrom, set the oscillator to the Metalcans patch and turn up the index or shift knobs on Mod A. Play a few random notes and you should have some very very robot like noises ;)

Now get to work ya tnuc and send me the results haha!

seems to me like you could do some wicked sound design w/ a convolution plug in-- ie, space designer in logic. load in a sample of something mechanical and play massive, etc thru it.

A trick I found when playing around trying to make this sound in Thor was to have filter 1 as a comb and filter 3 as a formant filter.
The modulate the formant filter with the lfo's (found the ones that look like stairs to sound nice) and play :)
Hope that helps a bit
