I use VirtualDJ 6 - it's really simple and easy to learn. it could use some more effects and it only has 2 decks. the new Traktor has 4 i think...

I like the Torq interface the best, I wish their was an option for a higher quality i/o. Also the file system kinda sucks. For the price it can't be beat. Serato is the standard. I would recommend getting a box used, you can get them for 300 or less. The software is free and you will probably want new vinyls anyway. The new Serato is overpriced and I don't see what is so great about Tractor Scratch in fact it has one obvious flaw which is the wav forms aren't side by side like they are in Serato or Torq so you can visually see the beats line up. I can't tell you how many times this has come in handy. Any of those 3 will work tho, anything else, good luck to ya!

I probably should look into SL3 a little more before I tell you to forget about it but I don't think it is worth the cash. I know it uses the 2 in 2 out system like Torq does now. If you plan on using regular vinyl in your sets you might go with SL3 for the easier set up but most people I know use one format or the other and don't bother hooking up the vinyl through RCA's anyway. I will tell you I personally would opt for the old box.

sl3 is worth it for gigging maybe not the 200 bucks diff, but like 100-150$
def a more solid box and preamps and gain less toggles etc
it's worth a look at
sl1 is def worth the 500$ though

Been thinking about trading up from Torq and I regularly see the used boxes for 300 and under. Buy a pair of control vinyls and you are on your way. I am hoping they get even cheaper. 200 bucks and I am sold.

I have always been happy with my purchases on ebay. Fuck Craigslist. You are going to tell me how to scam a new one for that price, you don't have to do it in public tho
