TRUTH are killing it in 2009. With a stellar release early this year on arguably the biggest dubstep label around at the moment, MALA’s mighty DEEP MEDI MUSIC, the TRUTH boys have followed this up with two quite stunning releases on local Sydney label AQUATIC LAB and a forthcoming double release on SKREAM’s DISFIGURED DUBZ label. They toured the Europe earlier this year playing to some of the biggest Dubstep raves on the planet including DMZ in London, Melting Point in Paris, Bass Camp in Manchester and Soul Blazers in Antwerp to name a few. Two members of this three piece outfit come to Sydney on November 27th to unleash some of best tunes Dubstep has to offer right now.

It doesn’t end there though!

EL GUSTO, one half of HERMITUDE makes his VOID debut so expect some freaky hip hop and grimey dubstep beats mixed up by this turntable wiz. Joining him on the mic is his ELEFANT TRAX label mate and HERD & ASTOMONY CLASS front man OZI BATLA. This guy is machine on the mic and takes the VOID dancefloor to another level when he takes over hosting duties. MARK PRITCHARD in his final Phoenix performance of the year will bring the goods as per usual. Recent releases on KODE 9’s, HYPERDUB label and a forthcoming release on MALA’s, DEEP MEDI is making this boy well in demand internationally, aren’t we lucky he is a VOID resident. Paul Fraser and Victim fill in the gaps playing back to back sets to kick off and close the night.

Truth Biography

The theory that isolation breeds creativity has never been as apt as it is for Truth, a dubstep outfit hailing from one of the world’s most southern cities.

Truth, undoubtedly one of New Zealand’s greatest Dubstep exports; have been making a huge impact around the world with their heavy bassline riddims. What began as a musical experiment has now become something much more significant. A chance encounter with dubstep visionary Mala late in 2007 inspired the New Zealand trio, who have been working together for years, to try their hand at a new sound – one comprising serious sub bass and snares so nasty they make eyes water.

Within days of slipping Mala a handful of tunes, Truth had been signed to his label Deep Medi – widely regarded as one the most progressive in the scene, alongside a cluster of highly respected artists including Loefah, Kromestar, Silkie & Quest and Goth Trad.

Truth’s style defies categorisation, encompassing an array of melodies and vocals within spacious beats that range from half-step stompers like ‘The Fatman’ to deeper tunes like ‘Stolen Children’. One common element underpins every track though: a heavy bassline riddim that lays sheer force on any system heavy enough to handle it.

In just a year, the sound of Truth has spread across the world. ‘The Fatman’ has been pulled back countless times in numerous cities, from Dubwar at Club Love in New York, to Sonar in Barcelona, to Mass in Brixton – the home of dubstep’s seminal club night, DMZ.
Today, in a scene that is defined by dubplate culture, some of its biggest players are dropping Truth dubs in their sets including Mala, Skream, DMZ, and Goth Trad, to name a few. Joe Nice is flying the flag in the United States, while Skream is showcasing their beats in his legendary sets and on his notorious Rinse FM radio show Stella Sessions. Truth’s big riddims have been quickly snatched up by a number of established labels including Mala’s seminal ‘Deep Medi Musik’ with the huge 12”, (The Fatman / Stolen Children), Skream has picked signed an EP Truth double 12” featuring (Stay / The Future / Bubba Ho Step / Wednesday) for his label ‘Disfigured Dubs’. Australian Aquatic Lab has just signed two 12" vinyl releases (LAB 006 + LAB 007) along with a track for their album. Truth also has a 12" vinyl coming out on New Zealand based "Optimus Gryme Recordings" (Payback / Optimus Gryme- Immortal- Truth remix).
