AKG 240s
how many here use them? i have around 80 quid to spend on some cans
where im currently living its not ideal for me to be banging beats out for long (or short) periods of time
so am really needing some good ones for production and mixdown, heard the 240s are really good for mixdowns.
any feedback on these, or others in my price range?
(i did post in the headphones thread but to no avail)

Re: AKG 240s
Mine are from about 1980, bought them off ebay for about half the price of a new pair and they sound a lot better. Plus they are called "Sextetts" how fuckin cool is that?

Re: AKG 240s
there isnt enough low end in em for my taste. I always end up switching over to my hd 25's when i'm doing a bassline. They're not good cans for dubstep

I have a pair of HD25s that I use for playing out with but I think they suck for monitoring low end stuff. My in ear headphones give me a very good flat sound and I can actually hear sub freqs!
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Abz, those headphones, were they made in the 80's, or a design carried on since then?

Re: AKG 240s
These are classic shit! They were made back then as far as I know... there are new makes though.
I use them and love them, but rarely use them, prefer monitors.

Re: AKG 240s
k240's began production in the mid-70's I think. I don't know for sure when mine where made but from researching the net I think they are from around 1980 give or take a year or 2. They are all original. Good shape for a 30 year old piece of gear. They are 600 ohms and have a the 6 passive radiators. They have changed the design quite a bit but I have heard the newer ones and they sound comparable. The low end is actually damn near bottomless but they are fairly flat so it is going to seem like there is a lot of bass. I never rely on these headphones by themselves. Use monitors.darkmatteruk wrote:thanks for the replies, i really do want to make the right choice as im going to be doing the absolute vast majority of my production on them

maybe in 2 or 3 weeks i can stretch to 100-120 quid
Re: AKG 240s
Tragic. Yeah those cans should help you out a bit. Takes some time to get used to them tho. I would start out by listening to a lot of dubstep through them to get a good feel for them.darkmatteruk wrote:yea, monitors are a bit off my radar at present, and its not that often i get access to themabZ wrote:k240's began production in the mid-70's I think. Re: AKG 240s
That is actually the good thing about them. I don't know why everyone wants to make beats in the library? Where are you going to spark your j's at?deadly habit wrote:yea they are quality cans only issue some people really seem to have with them is they are semi open back

Re: AKG 240s
The AKG K240 are an honest headphone set.
You can work with them for a long time without fatigue
or physical discomfort.
They are neutral sounding.
There is not a big bottom end bass response and they are not
overly bright. They are perfectly useable for mixing IMO where monitors
are not an option.
There are certainly brighter and more "everything sounds bigger" headphones
but I don't personally feel this is better to get a good mixing result.
cheers

Re: AKG 240s
are you serious? 25's have insane bass response, down to under 20hz. you can hit lower notes with them than most club systems can even deal with..serox wrote:

i reeeally doubt that your tinny sony mobile in ear phones are better for mixing down your sub frequencies mate
