Logic to External Mixer Question...

Hi Guys, Just a quick question and some advice please....

I've just picked up an old vintage 1986 Allen & Heath mixer for only £50... A SUPER bargin now i've heard what it can do.
It gives a really nice analog warmth when i'm playing music or running productions through it, especially to basslines.

I ideally want to be able to run 8 channels or bus channels through each one of its channels in order to mix down on it.
I have a mac book pro going to an M-Audio Ozonic keyboard which I use as my soundcard, this only give me 2 outputs though.

Can someone give me advice on what extra bit of kit I could get that would give me say 8 - 10 outputs? Must be compatible with a Macbook pro, so ideally firewire.

Thanks

What's your budget man?

You'll probably have to spend a bit to get an interface worth having, that will really help you seamlessly get the best out of your desk. In short, if you can spend £500 then you're well alright, much below that you'll either struggle to find anything or the quality will start to drop.

Couple off the top of my head;

Echo Audiofire 8 - heard that one and it sounds good for the money
MOTU Ultralite Mk 3 - not heard but apparently good

Remember that you'll be using 2 outs to monitor through (best way to do it IMO) so you may end up with 6 mono channels, or a combination of 1/2 stereo and the remainder as mono. Depends on whhat the interface offers, and how you like to rig it up.

Good luck and have fun (guaranteed) :D

monitor thru the mixer.

presonus is the cheapest that i'd go. MOTU's great and upgradeable. metric halo 2882 or apogee ensemble if you can-- it's worth saving up for those. if $ isn't an issue ( ;) ), apogee rosetta.

You don't need that, you should give it to me. How does £100 sound

I know quite a few people who have this and are very happy about it - http://www.rolandus.com/products/produc ... rentId=114

10X in and 10X out. Sounds ok too! I wish i had that beast!

Focusrite makes decent products for well under $500 sterling. The ART Firewire interface looks very interesting too.

That Edirol looks pretty good. And I can get Edirol for trade prices too. Bonus

Looked at the Focusrite Sapphire & The M-Audio Delta 10/10 too.

Think the Edirol is winning at the moment...

Thanks for the advice
