about a year and a bit before I hit the "decent but also forgettable in the grand scheme of music" category.
they were memorable in that it was original (or at least I thought so), but forgettable because the quality was womp womp.
I'd love to revamp some of the older shit. strip all audio tracks of effects and all, and start a new mix down. but different programs, lost samples....I couldn't even identify where some of the samples came from listening to them again.
will post some older shit later on

About 6 months ago I had a big step up in my music and around then I started getting regular airplay from folk. It seems at the moment every track I do is better then the last. As AK mentioned everyday is a school day, this is so true.
The day I stop learning is the day I stop making music.

This but I am kinda slow tbh short bus business. I have been twiddling knobs for like 20 years and production almost that long too

I am going to be good when I grow up though

for me i've been djing since 98 but been producing almost 2yrs now my 1st 6months the tracks had great idea's cause i was djing a long time before but the
tracks never made sence but the 1st 1yr i was pretty much addicted all i did was go to work and music lol but only realise its been almost 2yrs now well i think
my trax are still crap but has improved alot since but also the 1st yr was doing it all by my self none of my mates are into production and i also was not on
forum's but i've improved alot from computer music mags, forum, soundcloud but yes everytime i start on a new track i learn new things i guess the last few
weeks i've been a little frustrated cause i think my beats has not been going anywhere but i just finish a new track today and i think its probably the best 1 so
far well looking forward starting on a new track already...but will keep pushing love it to much its so much fun..getting feed back on my own creations is like
playing a big set in front of thousand of people well it is for me..

i trust ur latter questions r rhetorical, BENGA, JOKER, > AMAZING, so the average guy on here is at the level i perceive 2 b good, once u exceed the stage where techinacility is at acertain level, ie quality mixdown etc etc. u r at 'good' level, then the only thing setting u apart frm the top guys is that little x factor and creativity that u just cht teach... imo (rightly or wrongly ) most producers hav made tunes that they think r on par with top producers but r 2 modest 2 say so....

I got confident in my technical skills and musical ideas after about 2 years. I feel in the last 10-8 months my tracks are on a fairly decent level though still learning every day 'nd bettering than the last.

Still think there's two things there, production and creating music. I just started paying attention to production value, and have finally started to get somewhere on that front, but for every step forward I've taken there, I've taken 8 1/2 backwards on the musical front. That sucks.
Pretty much Abz and me fighting for the back seat on that short buss.

innit, no joke
if you wanna truely excell you never stop learning
it can always be better
but to answer the question, about 2 years to get past the 'forgettable' pap as it were

ah yeah man! I have the same
producing skills go up, creativity goes down... I know how to get the sound I want, how to get it mixed down properly, but since I have this little ruleset in my head about producing the creativity seems to go down...
I used to poop out tracks like it was nothing... but well, that was breakcore... get amen break, distort, cut, rearrange, get gabba kicks, get reggae samples, arrange, GO GO GADGET +5 DB FOR EXTRA DISTORTION, export to mp3, upload to myspace, do the hoolahoop
