XBox 360 or PS3

Post by tr0tsky » Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:55 am

Which should I buy, and why?

Does anybody know any good deals?

Should I save my money and spend it on hookers and cocaine instead?

I never thought id say this but Xbox...

I was always a Playstation fan for years but lost my interest in gaming after my PS2 blew up and I couldnt afford a PS3.

Never really gave Xbox the chance but since borrowing my brothers xbox 360 and buying Modern Warfare 2 ive fallen in love with gaming again and want to buy more games and get myself online. I played MW2 on the PS3 before I bought it for the Xbox version and it didnt quite have the same feel.

Maybe its the novelty but the Xbox just seems a more serious gamers console (maybe because I love FPS) and the controller is so comfortable, responsive and ergonomic(?) to use. Xbox is a lot cheaper too.

Maybe im a convert but im sure id be saying the opposite had I purchased a PS3...

360 controller's much better for first person shooters. Somehow the graphics are less polished (?) and much grittier... dunno why, but it just seems like a more edgy experience than the ps3.

Mine's dead already though, and needs servicing. So be warned. The rings of death will still happen, if you don't switch it off and let it cool down every couple hours or so.. I didn't do that, played it constantly and now it's dead whilst lots of great games are being released. :(

Hopefully it can be fixed.. I've heard there's already the knowledge out there to get them back up and running again, so I just hope the service place have the necessary know how.

Oh, and don't listen to peeps talking about "Sony-only" releases, such as MGS.. XBox will always have it's own exclusive versions of those games anyways.

Must-buys: Fallout 3 & Tom Clancy's End War.

And you need to pay to go online with the X-box, is that right?

And do I need an 'elite' one just to play games? Wtf do people do with 39812832102318 GB?

Ive been finding out recently that if you want a full gaming experience it isnt cheap mate. Ive got a basic Xbox so I need to buy a hard drive and get a gold membership just to be able to play people online. There is a package for £50-60 that has a hard drive, head set and 3 months membership but obviously thats additional to the cost of the console and the game you want to play online.

upgrade your pc (best option)...or get a PS3.
you'll save £100s on the shitty xbox live thing. think: do microsoft need or deserve money to let you play a third party's game on their console through an internet connection you already pay for?

fuck microsoft. sony got the right idea.

I'm not the richest person on the block at the moment though I've got a couple of pennies spare.

I've found this badboy that I don't mind forking out for, mainly just coz I want to play Call of Duty.

Manufacturer's reconditioned Xbox 360 Premium console with a 20GB Hard drive with 12 months manufacture guarantee.

I dunno if it comes with fucking internet this or thingy-ma-jiggy that.

Man I don't know shit about games. :(

i'm not that fussed about the minute differences between the control systems and that, and having to choose between the games coming out on each platform is barely a problem these days as they almost all come out on each one, but the simple fact that you don't have to pay for the online features on the ps3, and that it doesn't fuck up all the time (ring of death etc.) would make me suggest you go for that one, also, although the xbox is cheaper in the first place, the cost soon ramps up as you have to buy a larger hard drive, and the subscription to live etc.

Also the xbox sounds like a fucking aeroplane trying to take off ;)

aye i know, but in the long run you'll end up spending about the same on an xbox and you'll also have a regular live subscription pay!

I have a 360 but it died thanks to the red rings of death. It's a great console...when it doesn't die on you :D

Mostly the choice between the two boils down to what games you prefer, although exclusive titles to one console are becoming less and less common. But then again, even little things like the controller (I much prefer xbox over ps3) can make all the difference.

360 actually tends to have better graphics than ps3. This has been shown in a bajillion side-by-side comparisons.

360 has a 3-year warantee for the red rings and 1 year for everything else. The newer consoles seem to have a lower failure rate than the ones from launch.

360 is backwards compatible with most xbox games; ps3 is not

Xbox Live runs better than PSN, but you have to pay for it

360's wifi adapter costs $100, ps3 has it built in.

The ps3's hd is upgradeable

360 has a much better controller. Sixaxis sucks.

The older ps3s could run linux. The new slim ones cannot.

A ps3 is more expensive than a 360 with the same size hd (in the US at least)

At the end of the day though, both systems are pretty much identical and your choice should really be determined by which console has the games you want to play.

Slightly off topic but is it just me that is slightly dissapointed by the graphics on both consoles most of the time? With HD TV's, Bluray Players ect. all coming out they seem a little behind, feel a little dissapointed with alot of game's graphics; even big ones COD:MW2.

To be fair i dont have a HD TV but even when i have played games at freinds house's nothing is really :o .

Hold on...I need to buy extra shit to plug an x-box into t'interweb?

To be fair, I only really want summant to play call of duty on, I don't really know any other games than Tekken 2 on the first playstation

I just fancy wasting some dosh on something to do when I'm stoned.

I ain't got no HD fatboy TV or owt like that so wouldn't notice graphics.

What un-missable games are there on either console that would shape my choice?

And do you have to pay to go online on the x-box? How much is this?

And wtf is the red ring? Is that what happens the morning after you feed your console a vindaloo?

You need to pay to play 360 games online but not to download game patches, demos, other free shit, etc. Is $50/year (~30 quid)

You need to buy an adapter if you plan on using wifi. Otherwise, you can just stick an ethernet cable into the back.

The red ring of death is a manufacturing defect that affected a fuckton of 360s. Basically, when it happens, you ring up Microsoft, sned em your console, and they send you another one within a couple weeks.
