manipulating logic with a korg electribe (via midi)

ez,
ive been using logic for about a year now (just upgraded to 9:)) but ive never used any kind of external hardware (midi controller etc) so im a little clueless in this area. ive just come across a usb "midisport 4x4" & all the cables/connectors etc needed to hook my electribe up to my computer ... nice one
essentially, i want to be able to turn on/off playback of defined channels & control certain effect parameters using the korg but . . . what do i need to do in logic to link certain parameters to certain knobs (haha, knob) on the korg ?
sorry if this is a proper retarded question . . .

haven't messed with midi setups for quite a while, but controling a daw's playback controls using your electribe shouldn't be much of a problem to set up. using the knobs to control the parameters... not so sure of that one. i believe that tribe's knobs don't send midi messages.
anyway, the core of your answer consists of two steps:
1) read your electribe manual.
2) read your daw manual.
you don't have to read the whole lot of em, just look under midi in both manuals. pay attention on parts that consider midi sync!

a little tip!
Look on the Transport bar (where play etc.. is ) and when you turn a midi controlling perimeter, weather it be a note or a midi pan pot, it says the midi channel, midi number etc so you can see whats coming in/out.
This shows the midi channel (1) the midi perameter (74) and the value (118)
From this it should make your life easier

I have an Electribe and never realised that it could be used to control midi within my DAW... something to look into
