basically loads of celebrities go to sanctuaries/natural habitats of different endangered species', then do reports, and the public call in to vote for which cause they want the cash to go to

to be fair it will bring positive action, and also raise awareness, but its just so depressing that its come to that! a beauty contest for endangered wildlife

Judging the worth of one species to exist instead of another is not the kind of awareness that will be helpful. Turning serious issues into a game show completely eschews the delicate nature and complexity of these situations and discourages people from supporting a cause as a whole by asking them to favour one focal point to the detriment of others for largely abitrary reasons, which turns the cause in on itself. It is cynical.

i dont think its entirely as simple as that, but i do know what you're saying, and mostly agree.

i just struggle when it comes to things like this to have real conviction (outside of an emotional response) because i find it really hard to have faith in any hypotheses regarding the effects of such things on the public... the way in which people perceive and process information is such a complex issue, i find it hard to have confidence in a personal explanation

its a terrible catch to be caught by though, cos it leads down a fairly bleak road

anyways, we can all agree that its grim, as paolo says, actually beyond satire!

I think it'd be far more fun to demolish the houses of desperate celebs whilst they're away on love island or in the outback and build wildlife sanctuaries for the threatened critters on their property. Then just leave the celebs there, turn the cameras off and you kill two birds with one stone

Not when Norm loses loads of wonga doing Big Beach Boutique on New Years Day (Brighton residents only naturally). £25 to stand on Brighton beach in less than zero temperatures doesn't sound like the best way to bring the year in.
Hmm....

Exactly. Ask someone to vote bewteen saving, say, the panda or plankton, and they'll vote for the panda, yet without plankton 90% of marine life dies out (check out who watched Blue Planet last night).

I know this is over simplifying it, but I guess I'm trying to say that getting the general public to vote on something which is so important is a complete waste of time.

And why are they even voting on it in the first place??? Think about the actual premise here. Its like the plot from a David Coupland book.

Ridiculous.

Wasn't there a panda that wouldn't breed for ages called Chi Chi though - might be some explanation - the other one might be that it's difficult for pandas to get the horn surrounded by chinese zoologists:wink:

a panda turns up at a brothel in a pair of jeans a nice jacket and a jaunty hat, he says to the girl on reception , "hey im looking for a nice little europrean lass to get to grips with "
"first floor , room 9" replies the girl.
so up he goes....

25 minutes later after hes done his business, he rubs the girl on the head and says "cheers , that was pretty good!! never done that before nice one!" and starts making his way to the door
"oi, hold on a minute!" says the girl "theres a small matter of money which you owe me!"
"i dont understand " says the bruin.
"well im a prostitute"
"what does that mean?" says the bear
"look it up in a dictionary " says the aggy prostitute
"well, i will" says the bear walking out the door
"oi , who do you think you are?!?!"
"im a panda darlin, eats shoots and leaves, look it up in the dictionary!!
