Pre built PC's (HELP NEEDED)

So as its coming upto christmas, the parents have offered to hook me up.

What I want to know is the below prebuilt worth the price?

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sea ... Sku=159426

That with a decent third party firewire/usb audio interface should be alright for the price, right?

Would it be cheaper to build one for myself? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

Would I just be better off getting a macbook pro/mac pro and Logic in the long run? (if I get a mutts nuts pc first, I won't be bothering with this route in a year or so)

I'm clueless when it comes to the tech side of the actual computer I'm using! :u:

Cheers lads and ladies.

if your really clueless about pc's and have the cash to splash go for a mac 1\ it just works 2\ you get to use logic ( arguably the best daw )

a pc will be cheaper but the pain of keeping it running and worrying about sound drivers might not be worth the effort, unless you play games too.

im pretty good with computers, but i dont know much about audio hardware and computers.
atlhough that machine for that price isnt that bad. Mine cost more, has similar features, but in some areas yours is better.. i.e Graphic card is built in.

Windows is also a 64 bit edition, this can be a probel mas some programs may not work with the system at ease, or x64 bit editions could of been made.
for more on operating systems and its bitss - Here - Provided by Microsoft

Heads up- as far as ive looked. Logic isnt avalible for windows.

I took a look at the Edirol FA-101 Firewire Audio Interface - and the specs seems like it should work with the system..
tho i dont see why any problems should really occur.

Hope i Helped!

If I was going with a macbook pro, which would be best suited?

At a guess I'm going to say the higher the spec, the better, but can you make decent tracks with a shitload of samples/vst synths/etc in one of the lower end models without running into any problems/glitching(right word?) etc?

Get an imac. They are more powerful and you can load 16gigs of ram into them.

They have just updated the line to an amazing spec. Im really chuffed with mine.

Seen. You can use student discount on them too? It's for "my sister" you see! :D
I'll be hitting up the Apple Store on Regent St a week on Saturday, so it should be sweet deals if so.

Whats the discount percentage, do you know off the top of your head? I've been told between 30/45%?

I'd really think twice about buying a mac just because a couple of guys on internet suggested to do so.

I'm not willing to start a pc vs mac battle, both have pros & cons. Just take time to think about it.

Surely you want a Mac if you're going to use Logic but how about you try it out first. The GUI may just not be for you.

Plus, the argument that Mac are more stable is true if you buy a cheap pre-built PC and have no idea what's inside, because components such as the power supply or the motherboard are crucial and you never know which ones you get.
But if you take time to learn a bit and choose your components - possibly with the help of the geeks on computer forums - your PC will be as stable as a Mac.

Pros of buying a PC would be the possibility to upgrade it later.
And the possibility to *ouch* torrent your software before buying it. Don't get me wrong I'm not encouraging to have an illegal setup but I seriously doubt anybody here or elsewhere started to buy their software from the moment they started to make music.

EDIT : if you get a 45% discount, go for it! :D

Apple student discount is 10% mate. I have a mac pro but the new i macs looks sick.
I was a bit dubious when choosing to get a mac but don't regret it at all. You can also buy parallel which allows you to run any windows programs at the same time as anything in osx which looks extremely handy. I've not used it but it's got pretty good write ups.
I would try and have go with logic before commiting to a mac though, because you could get a cheaper spec pc + cubase ( with student discount) + a few vsts for the same price as am imac =) I find logic a lot easier to use so am happy, but if i didn't i would be on a pc for sure.
