how do you get your tracks heard ?
Hi Guys,
I have a question that I am sure is on many peoples minds, how do you get your tracks heard ?
So you have some tracks with a good quality master process applied, now what ?
Well release time I guess... but how ?
Maybe someone here who has been through this could give me some pointers ( I don't care about royalties, just want my stuff played ).
Here are the ideas I have ( I am at step 0 : ).
0\ make sure the tracks you want to release are as tight as possible, scrap every track that isnt your absolute best.
1\ Set up a website to show off your work and try make a 'brand' /' image' .
2\ spam every radio station and label that is linked to dubstep
Is there any thing else I should keep in mind while starting this process ?
cheers,
tylert

this is just me but if its good u will get approached eventually via soundcloud or myspace. You could introduce yourself to labels you like and give a demo. Idk pretty much what happen to me via myspace. There is a few topics on this already so you should search for them for more answers.

I talked to Kali a man on the west coast who directed me to shad at imperative. I'll give ur stuff a listen around 3pm Chicago time I'm at school now.

Promote your stuff as much as possible, if you just want your tracks played, and not worried about money (your in the perfect position if your just starting), then put it up everywhere, Soundcloud, Myspace, Youtube, Sub-Bass ect..
Then go to dubs section here and similar forums, promote harder, make a Mediafire account with all your tracks in a public folder, share this link, go to blogs (big list on here somewhere) and ask if you can have a review, even putting tracks on torrents will help.
Sign up to AIM/MSN if not already, as people will ask you for tracks on IM if they can.
Good luck man.

Re: how do you get your tracks heard ?
I think the real question is you are track efficient enough for the average Joe to listen to. You will know once your music is getting good, people give you feedback, people will get in touch with you and people will want your music ! Now when this moment in your life happens, no one will ever know.... because saying "am good is subjective" you cant do the talking, your music does the talking for you... However, when you have reached this milestone in your life, thats when you think about things such as promotion. I would highly suggest you take up Baz's idea and take that into account.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: how do you get your tracks heard ?
thanks guys, all good tips.... but if i just want to make music. The release/promo side of things sounds like a full time job and I already have on of those : ( and lets face it very few people make a living out of music so i think this will stay a serious hobby for me : )tripwire22 wrote:Good luck man.
I guess thats what a label does, ie the non making music side of music ? or do labels simply get the music into places like beatport ?

It doesn't take much time all your time should go toward improvement till you get approached. But that is just my idea.
Re: how do you get your tracks heard ?
You are your own boss, so you will get out of it what you put in, and its not too hard, clicking the buttons on your mouse and hitting the keys on the keyboard.tylert wrote: The release/promo side of things sounds like a full time job and I already have on of those : (
The hardest part is making the tracks that make people go "

Re: how do you get your tracks heard ?
My advice if you want to go professional like is to diversify.
To be brutally honest ... The days of running a label and making money (enough to live on) are pretty much gone IMO
Look at soundcloud - you can get 1000 hours of free music with a couple clicks ... its like photography - the digital era has democratized the medium but killed the business as it was.
The best thing to do is to get a job that helps facilitate your passion - teach music tech to kids, try and get into sound design for games and TV, play out live, run club nights, in short do anything you can that is still connected with music. Then if you are good then over time you will have made contacts and won over fans whilst being able to pay the rent ... if your good you can get money but unless you are REALLY good (and lucky) its very hard to make just music in todays world.
This statement was not a happy one but the truth is out there.
