looking into starting to dj

If you must DJ with digital files, at least use Something like serato. But if you want to start DJing dubstep, you should think about what that means and embrace DUB culture, it's all about vinyl!

use whatever you like...you don't need to use vinyl at all...music is good music regardless of the medium

vinyl is of course fun to use but you can achieve more using ableton...eq 5 tunes together for example!

loop bits here and there and literally rebuild the tunes as you wish once you master it!

I'd say stick it out a bit longer n save up for some vinyls for the pure fact that, since ive had vinyls, i can walk up to any type of mixing equipment/software and use it straight away, where as ALOT (not all) of the people i know who started on mp3/cd cannot mix on vinyl to save thier life

IMHO disclaimer :

Save your $ and buy vinyl. It'll pay off in the long run. Get another job to make the extra $ for vinyl, if you have to. Getting an extra job to pay for something you otherwise can't afford is common. Buying vinyl isnt as expensive as it seems anyway. Buy used stuff if you have to. The thing is playing mp3s and getting away with it isnt easy. Kids get up and try to peddle mp3s all the time and fail. I also see peeps get up there and rip it up with mp3s. It depends on you and how you play them. I choose to go with vinyl because the wax (to me) is much more dependable than the technology.

Moral of the story is get another job, work 7 days a week. Wait a couple months and save up your cash. Order a sh*t load of wax then bring it to your friends house party and blow them all away with your wax. I am telling you bringing a box of vinyl brings with it more hype then bringing your mouse pad. You'll be glad you worked harder and didnt take the fast, cheap and easy way out. Work hard, save your $ and buy wax. You're friends will respect you more for it and you'll have a better time with the wax than the mp3s.

buy some cdj's and a mixer.. not much more thsn you will be paying for those, i guess what your thinking of buying will give you a good idea as to whether Djing is for you though

There are still so many essential dubs that only come out on vinyl, if you're only dj'ing dubstep and don't have connections to get the mp3's direct from the producers you'd be limiting yourself going strictly digital. Unless you're into transferring the vinyl at home yourself to play out .

if it comes out it isn't a dubplate

regardless of which format you use it won't be easier to get dubs and you aren't supposed to play them anyway without permission

I have seen dubplates for sale, which people don't like but if you had decks or a hybrid setup you could theoretically play out if purchased.

If you really want to just try it out getting a controller isnt a bad route, however if you do get into it you should look into getting decks and stuff.

Hey guys, didn't want to start a new thread about this so I figured I would just post here. I got my DJ setup around 4 months ago I have two technic 1200s m3ds. A behringer DJX 750 and serato. I have mainly just been downloading tunes and playing them at parties usually in my house. I have a mix of dubstep, house, dnb, and a lot of metal/rock (i'm a big metal head as well) (also, i'm not proud of ripping music off the internet which is why I am asking this, so keep the bashing to a minimum please) I have had a fascination with vinyl as long as I can remember, and I was thinking about selling my serato SL3 which I should be able to get around 700-800 dollars for, and spending that on a PA and vinyls. Does it sound logical to regress like that? Or should I just start buying MP3s online. I dont fell like my skills are that sharp just because I jumped to using serato, and it's made me kinda lazy. Sorry for the scattered text, my mind is racing atm. What do you guys think?
