How does resampling actually help make your sounds better?
I tried the search function and got nothin'.

It doesn't... it only saves processing power.

That's not right.

Bouncing down a midi track to audio saves processing power. Resampling is different.

By resampling, you take the original sound, bounce it, then take that sound and add more effects, modifiers etc (usually within a smapler such as Kontakt). You basically take a processed sound then process it again. You can do this as many times as you like, and you can twist up the sound as much as you like.

it doesnt necessarily make your sounds better, but with resampling you can do things that you cant with synthesis alone e.g. reverse your sound, put loops in it, time stretch it, chop it up, etc. not to mention that pitching sounds different on samples than on synths and any effects you have applied will also be pitched where they would not normally.

Why would bouncing the sound down make any differance to the sound? Why not just pile a shit load of FX onto the channel?

As mentioned already, bouncing down to audio saves processing power. This is very handy on complex projects.

thats about the size of it. real world examples would be reverse reverb, spliting a bass with sends, effecting each and resampling back together.... its just another tool to use in your producer trick bag.

So it doesn't make a differance to the sound...

If you bounce to 96 or 128 or something then of course it will, so bounce to .wav to retain sound quality.

best benefit i can give for resampling is that it saves your ass in this situation

you have 1 synth generating 4 sounds(think variation of a patch) say variations A,B,C,D

instead of automating between A B C and D through out the entire song (this gets incredibly unrealistic depending on how different each variation is)
you can capture a riff of each sound of the synth A through D and then rearrange them so instead of

A A A A BBBB CCCC DDDD

you can do

CADC BABD CDAD CADA etc etc

then it takes a HUGE load off your automation tracks and just gives you a general "sound" you wouldn't have been able to achieve
