well I guess it depends on the system you're listening on, doesn't it?
MP3 player/iPod isn't any good because you're most likely on headphones - which means no bass.
I just mostly listen to high quality MP3's on my desktop speakers (with a sub) and it does fine for me (maybe not so fine for the neighbours...)

12" serato vinyl
Am i right in thinking that Serato vinyl is simply 12" pressed with time coding or something like that so it can work in conjunction with the mp3's from the software on the computer? If thats the case then the quality is in the mp3 file, not the vinyl. (Guessing its not limited to mp3 as well). For me personally it depends on what context i am listening to it. Vinyl most of the time but if i'm out and about then ipod's are the only realistic way i'm guessing. Also spend a lot of time on the computer so mp3's and streams from the net.

but does it sound better on 12" or 10"?
As far as Serato goes I think the sound quality has something to do with audio box it comes with. Can you tell the difference between a serato 12" and a serato cd when listening to dubstep?

for the most part vinyl is vinyl... doesnt matter what size its really.. it matters more at what speed its cut, the weight of the vinyl being used, the mastering, etc...
i myself will always be a vinyl purist... i believe vinyl has a much warmer sound, and can easily hear the difference between cd/mp3 and vinyl when playing out, no doubt about it...
i think that a cool feature for serato would be to let the clicks and pops of the vinyl be heard on top of the mp3's that get played.. which will give it a more authentic sound...

96kbps mp3 really brings out the best in the songs, especially the low-end. I only mix using that.
I run my mixer output through a cassette adapter and play the mixes through a ghetto blaster boombox when I play out.

Fuck the clicks and pops, audiophiles spend thousands on needles and cartridges to eliminate the crackles. I hate it when trip-hop/hip-hop artists purposefully put them in. Spending days cleaning up a sample, then ruining it all by adding surface noises to try and make it sound more 'authentic'

canned samples of vinyl noise sounds like shit... but real vinyl noise sounds ok to me.. i dont spend thousands on needles and carts and my records sound fine.. keep your records clean and you wont have to worry about that shit... anyways.. to keep this on topic...
my opinion is vinyl.. and that goes for any genre really.. i personally think vinyl sounds better than any other format...
