Is it time for Mala to release an album?

Post by Whistla » Fri Dec 04, 2009 2:21 pm

Well?

I know i know, dubplate culture etc.. but!

it is self evident that the success of people like Wiley etc is down to the easy availability of his albums (this is just purely an example)

now Mala is (as we all know) huge. but... is he as well known and regarded as say Skream (has released an album), Benga (ditto) etc etc... outside of the "dubstep crew"?

would a Mala album actually help to rejunvinate dubstep? and steer it in a new direction?

these are things i ponder

He said his style doesn't lend itself to writing albums.

Considering the amount of sick Mala dubs, hell yes. Doubt it will happen though...

not right though is it?Its mala, i think his popularity in the dubstep scene is not only becuase of some pretty dman epic tunes but also the way he presents himself as an artist. You have to see the man live to hear his latest dubs and you hear near to nothing about what the man is planning next. Not sure if he does this all intentioanlly but i think if mala became, what i could only call, commercial it would undermine the whole image of DMZ and digitalmysikz..
BOOMsHaNKA!an interception!
.....But that’s always the chance you take.

oh my god yes it is! it has been a few years now.

but if he would release an album full of his old dubs, no thanks. it would just ruin what mala is all about. instead an album full of mala's 114, 140, and even ambient experiments, yes!

someone else should choose from all his unreleased dubs...and make it into an album..maybe even edit and filter tunes into each other to make it more like an album

He should never ever release an album of his unreleased tunes, it would be quite amazing if he just worked on some new material that no one else has heard and made some new tracks for an album itself

If Mala MAKES an album i am all for it. If he stringed a few tunes that have been lying about on dubs for years then whats the point. (Although so many tunes are gonna stay on dub :? )

An album wouldn't be the right thing imo and I don't think Mala is too bothered about being commerically succesful. I mean everyone needs money for food etc but he doesn't come acorss as someone who'd put out an album just to gain popularity.
