what made you want to learn /start production

for me i can honestly say it was dubstep.

im 20 years old was big into hiphop in my highschool days. i actually fucked around with making beats on garageband when i was like 14-17, then just stopped all together as i started smoking pot heavily and drinking. wish i stepped it up back then and started learning about engineering and shit i would be so much farther advanced then i am now.. oh well cant go back in time.

i listened to a bit of electronic music back then but not to much, mostly just popular techno songs or w/e had no idea about underground electronic music.

i think it was about 2-3 weeks after discovering dubstep(which was about 6 months ago now) that i had made up my mind that i NEED to learn how to make my own tunes.
been reading heavily on production tryin to suck up any knowledge i can since then

by the way, i still cant get a decent crystal clear sounding mix... any advice ?

I've been a DJ for about 11 years now and producing seriously for maybe 3.
I started producing because I love playing shows and I want it to someday be my livelihood.

It seemed kind of halfassed to never add anything new to the pot.

I probably would have started producing earlier if I had any confidence in my musical ability at the time.
I'm far better now than I thought I'd be able a few short years ago, though definitely a long way to go still.

music. i was in a punk rock band when i was about 8-11 years old, we played a bunch of shows in the seattle area. im 17 now and as my taste in music has progressed over the years I have changed the way i make music, i still play guitar and a little bit of drums but I mostly just enjoy nerding out on my computer these days and sometimes have a jam sesh with my buddies, i hope to someday be able to get a decent mix, help out in studios, get a few releases maybe, I just love being involved with music in one way or another. i think i have a lot to offer and thats why i produce. I do my own thing and keep things fresh, I like to feel like im accomplishing something and setting goals.

Because I noticed all the guys on the music production course at college got all the quality pussy.

One of my friends sold a Commodore Amiga to a bloke who ran a studio and in part payment
he said he would give my friend some studio time, my friend invited me and I was totally
in awe, we put a jungle tune together in this studio and I knew I would have to be setting up a studio,
no going back. This was around the time of Lenny D Ice's We are I.E. (and Moby's Go!)
I had 4 commercial releases since, not exactly top 10 tunes ! but nonetheless really great fun.

Life changing day in the studio that one.

I still remember the night I heard hardcore techno. My friends and I were tripping on acid in like 1994 and we happened to find the college radio station and it was playing some hardcore shit, I was instantly hooked. It wasent till years later when I could finally afford something to produce with, which was Reason in 2002.

i was sick of playing in JAM BANDS. actually i started both guitar and production at the same time but the production slowly took over.

I needed music for a film I was making so I thought I'd make my own. That was three years ago. Now I'm making another and I need more music.

That and Kode9's Glass - that tune still gives me the shivers.

One night I was tripping and my friend showed me Reason 3.0. Having no prior musical background, analog or electronic, I spent the rest of the night trying to wrap my head around that program, and loving it. The rest is history.
