just pick em up, and set em on your computer. voila!

yeah so really, get an interface that you dig/can afford, then get some sort of recording software (soundforge, cubse, logic, peak, ..whatever) and hook your Turntables up to the computer audio interface and hit record on the recording software, and play on the turntables... and record... then go back and edit out the silence so you get the track starting where you want it to, then save/bounce down/export audio to a 320 mp3 at 44.1Khz.

lurrrrvely. 8)

Don't forget to route the turntable through a mixer or something to get a phono pre-amp otherwise you won't get the full base.

And monitor the levels to get the loudest recording without distortion.

download audacity. its free and works great.

i picked up an M-Audio mobilepre usb. 2 preamps into a usb cable. works great, super portable, cost me about $150us brand new.

Important, as mentioned: You will have to get hold of a RIAA (phono preamplifer) unit to "convert" the phono level and impedance to line level. Some of the new USB/FW audio interfaces (incl. the new Digidesign Mbox 2 Pro I think) has got a dedicated RIAA input.

EDIT: Of course you can you use a DJ mixer, if you have got one. Very simple.

i just run my mixer into the audio input on the back of my pc, and record using audacity. you can save as wav or mp3. quality is fine for listening to off itunes/mp3 players, etc.

what if you're ripping samples for use in production? probly best to use an interface (which I can't afford!) however is it best to just line in - soundforge it keeping the peaks down then normalizing it an saving as a WAV?
