DJ Collab/Producing with others

Post by Ampton » Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:07 am

Artists who collaborate with others on producing and working live sets, how do go about it?
For the producers, do you just fire an idea between each other, adding and subtracting till you have something your both happy with? Excision & Datsik for example, how do they combine they're talents to produce? Do they build up by working on different sections of a song separately or what? What does it actually entail when artists like this have both worked on producing the same song? I'm just interested on collaboration techniques and work flow etc..
Also, for live sets...who does what in situations like this? I have a mate who's into his turtablism and I have experience working digitally and with hardware controllers. How could we make a live set work so that its engaging for both of us? Thanks.

as far as performing live with someone, i'm horrible at it, i need to be in control, so it usually ends with me telling the other guy to go fuck off into the crowd while i rock this shit

as far as datsik and excision go, they live in the same town i think, so they probably just get together and make beats.

if you're collabing with someone thru the computer, AIM ect, just shoot samples back and forth, or "stems" of the track.

key elements of the track solo'd and rendered to loop er whatever.

hope that helps, peace.
