Recording?

So, Im DJ end, n when I down to recording mixes, I typically just use Audacity after my master channel effects effects... (Imagine cheap cdjs, into laptop to process master effects, then laptop signal running both out and being recorded by Audacity)

Now, problem is, after about 45 minutes of recording, my PC outirght freezes for a while (I run nix, this isnt common for us) ... My theory is, since audacity deosnt display a waveform for my recordings until after I hit the stop button, that all this signal is getting stored in my RAM until that point... Causing lag after a half hour and death at 45... reminds me of the titanic after it hit the iceberg.

Does anyone know of a less resource consuming recording solution? Shy of analog? I have no loyalty to audacity, its spiraled downward lately... I just need a software that wont eat so much resource I cant record a full length!

invest in a real DAW... ableton has a 30 day trial right now and their new economy package (ableton intro) is only 100 bucks compared to the 400 for the full version. thats prob the cheapest thing ive found that is quality

Or you could try Reaper which is even better for $60. Take a look at the full version demo. Uncrippled, unexpiring and you just cant beat the price with a feature set that easily surpasses other daw's that cost much more. Give it a try. http://www.reaper.fm

I am not affiliated with reaper in any way other than being a registered user of this awesome software.

Lol, I have real DAWs dudes, dont tweak, but when Im tryin to save on memory I hardy figure running Live is my best bet, Im not using audacity to make anything here, really just because its been the lowest resource consuming option for recording my mixes Ive been able to stand so far...

@tripaddict , thanks for the tips dude, gonna look into sound forge when im off here.
