where has all the space gone?
something i miss about older dubstep was all the space in a track. nowadays it seems like most producers are more interested in showing off their production wizardry and filling up all the space they can with little sounds. which is all well if you're that good of a producer, but damn its borderline wankery at times, like some hair metal dude shredding a guitar solo for 5 minutes.
nothing wrong with it if thats yr thing, but i could really use some more space, vibes, and dub.

Re: where has all the space gone?
I know what you mean, I'm all about space in my productions these past 2 or 3 months. Really enjoying where they're going too

Re: where has all the space gone?
Yep Nero and Chase and Status fucked it up for everyone. It's like slowed down clown step
I was digging this stuff at first but the wall of sound crap is getting to me. Would rather opt for some heavy darkness like Kryptic Minds, Headhunter, etc.

So true.
I've only been in this since late 07, and its changed so drastically since then. Never really got to enjoy the "sound" that drew me in, *barely* two years under my belt (last year) and was already looking backwards with nostalgia.
But... I mean come on. We're PRODUCERS. If we like a certain sound, we can just make it. Scene's still young enough to support another sub-genre. Pun intended.

This what I'm aiming for at the moment. Sorry to plug but if you've time have a look at my Soundcloud and one called "Melting Footprints". I think I'm getting back to that sound I love so much...ketamine wrote:So true.

Yep that is why I became a producer in the first place, to make shit that isn't available. Doesn't make sense to make filthy wobblers when they are a dime a dozen. No really challenge there either if you are good at following directions you can make a rusko spesh just by reading the stickies at the top of the forum. Gotta do better than that.ketamine wrote:So true.

Space, Pace and Bass.
my motto what I carry throughout all my tunes and have done since day 1 of producing dubstep (06)
Soundcloud
Is my latest attempt at doing something completely different while having space and pace with tuff bass.

haha. i never believe anyone that tells me they listen to john cage.therapist wrote:You guys would love John Cage.
the first time i heard dubstep was back in late 2005, from listening to dj rupture....then i discovered a set by mrk1, plastician, and slaughter mob, found the 'run the road' comps, and then a really raw and grimey mix by mac10 and sharkey major, i think it was. at that time there weren't very many people in the states listening to it, and its weird now since it is getting more popular that newcomers think it's just a cheap rock thrill, heavy metal sorta thing, and dont even have a clue about the spacier and dubbier sound of back in the day

For sure! I've been really enjoying more thick atmosphere and less concentrated abrasivity... This one f/e.
