Track names preceded by a letter/number?

I have recently downloaded discographies for Caspa, Rusko, Benga, Skream and Emalkay and they all have track names preceded by a letter then a number.
For example, the first few Emalkay tracks go:

A1 Sector 187
A2 Sinister Interlude
B2 Catastrophe

What does it mean? And can anyone recommend a tag renaming program that will delete the first x characters from a group of track names? I've found tag renaming programs but none that seem to do that.

A1 and A2 are are on one side of vinyl, B2 is the other side. I know its not vinyl but that's where it comes from. Not sure bout the tag software.

The point is this: music IS free whether you want to believe that or not. Every piece of music you can think of is available free right now a click away. This is a fact - it sucks as the musician BUT THAT'S THE WAY IT IS (for now). So... have the public get what they want FROM YOU instead of a torrent site and garner good will in the process (plus build your database).

They're vinyl catolog numbers, so those tunes are probaly vinyl rips. The A side is usually the main tune.
