Movies that leave you uncomfortably numb...

Post by faust.dtc » Wed Jan 13, 2010 2:03 pm

Can anybody name any good films that have left you gob-smacked and uncomfortably numb as the credits roll, leaving you with a cold feeling as you think 'WHAT. THE. FUCK!!!' or 'WOW!!!' as you look back on it.

I had that the first time I watched Requiem For A Dream and im sure others, which unfortunately dont spring to mind and id like to know more.

Martyrs is a great one. There's quite a lot of great French movies of the past 10 to 15 years that have been majestic in upsetting a lot of people.

I'll have a flick through my DVD's later to pick out some choice headfuck films.

Blade Runner
Fight Club
Stand By Me
American History X
Citizen Kane

The Truman Show
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile

Your absolutely right Bandy, it isnt quite the right word to use but I really couldnt think of a way to properly describe the sensation RFAD gave me after watching it. I chose 'numb' as all i could do was sit completely still staring at the screen with an awkward feeling as the hairs stood up on the back of my neck...

I think emotionally overwhelmed would be a good way of describing it.

It did cross my mind, dont get me wrong, but I thought adding 'emotion' would make people think I was talking about girly films like The Notebook or summin. Good call though...

That montage at the end of Kids where they play some Folk Implosion tune always gets me.
