Sample selection but also processing of your sounds comes into play here.

Off the top of my head - try subtle bit crushing, re-sampling to shit quality mp3s, layering on some vinyl crackles...

i want to say the horn loop sounds like a sample but not sure. the horns and piano sound filtered out, probably low pass filtered. that will take the brightness and digital sound out and give you a more lofi sound. a few things ill do to dirty as sample beside filtering would definitely include saturation and bit crushing to give a warmer crunchier sound. and like drokkr said i love layering in samples of vinyl crackle to give anything a really dirty sound lofi sound.

if you have a mic, play it out some shit speakers and record it again. should make it sound pretty ropey, plus you will get some natural room reverb on top of it, which can be nice.

ah. shit, one of my favorite topics.

best way to get that shitty sound is to eat hella food that makes you wana take a PHAT shit and then take a shit and then record yourself taking a shit. mic placment is KEY during this process, cause if you FUCK it up your gonna have to do the WHOLE god damn thing again. so unless you like taking a SHIT do this SHIT right.

when you feel like you've gotten a good recording (usually takes me 4-5 attempts), just stick that bad boy in ya sampler and it should sound pretty much like shit. a shitty sounding synth to be exact.
i live for it so dont hate on me sucka

Downsample with lower sample resolution / bitrate, filter, run it through old spring reverbs or analog delays.

It sounds classic and vintage because it is classic and vintage.

It's all about searching around for the right sample.
