The beginning of the last decade saw Slim Shady become Marshall Mathers, M.O.P told us to Ante Up and the sad death of Big Pun. We can't predict what's going to happen in the next ten, but we do know what albums we're looking forward to and 2010 looks to be a year where some long-awaited long players are finally delivered.

Here’s our pick of the albums that are going to make 2010 a perfect start to the fifth decade of hip hop...

This was a more US/commercial list, I appreciate it not to everyone's taste, but some of our readers like this style.

I personally prefer more underground hip hop too, you might prefer this Kid Kanevil mix that went up today - http://www.kmag.co.uk/editorial/feature ... -guest-mix

fine, but i'd expect you to use the position you have to promote real hiphop instead of the def jam rosta. there's some really dope shit out there which gets fuck all attention, it needs all the promo it can get..

not forgetting..

there is no underground/commercial divide as far as I can see personally, popularity depends on talent x exposure i think - the problem is that hiphop is so a) oversaturated b) discussed ad nauseum, that most people stopped listening. I know for me when i hear someone rapping on a beat i generally switch off, unless its someone genuinely authentic, such as DOOM or Mos Def, even on the sleazy side people lil wayne, Giggs etc..

i'd have to say the selection represented by kmag is really based on radio playlist and doesnt reflect what the public listen to out of choice, yes many people enjoy their music, but if you were to survey people i doubt those artists are as prevelant on the hiphop menu as you claim they are.

I would suggest that you tell kmag to put more emphasis on newer musical templates, much like Fabric have done with this new elevator music compilation (a dance album but that's fabric's ballpark i guess) - i say if you're feeling kidkanevil then put him on.

thanks for the contribution to the forum though, i'm sure folks will appreciate it nonetheless.

gotta sell those mags, except they dont have mags anymore. gotta get them web stats popping for revenue, i think because it's now a web based thing kmag could get away with focusing on fresher talent, knowing they dont have to sell x amount of mags to make ends meet.
