Buying my first mixer

Post by my_fickle_eye » Fri Jan 15, 2010 1:08 am

Hey peeps looking into buying my first dj mixer, just wondering what peoples thoughts on omnitronic's mixers are, trying to find information about them on the web is like getting blood from a stone.

I only want something cheap to practice on at home so any links to dj websites for sale sections would also help

If you have any suggestions that would be helpful also, 3 channels for mixing would be preferred as I would like to hook my laptop up to it.

Cheers

never heard of omnitronic. I always go by my rule:

Theres no such thing as a good cheap mixer.

Sorry im not much help, but my advice is to stick with the better known brands like vextax, Rane, Eclaire, allen and heath etc...

Vestax n Numark re the only companies I feel like I can trust on a budget. Numarks stuff is patented under uber-cheap-powah... serious... call the patent office...

So what, you on turnstables I take it? If thats the case man, aim for something with a precise ass eq and faders, levels become a bigger deal with vinyl.

Whats your budget man, thatd help.

Any good places to get second hand bargains in certain forums etc? Had a look on ebay and no smxs for sale at the moment any idea what they go for second hand? Thanks again.

Well, I suppose you already got your mixer and congrats on that. A new mixer is always exciting. Perhaps I'm a little late on my advice, but consider this for your next mixer, and if you got that Numark you most certainly will need that next mixer sometime in the future.

It is better to save up for a proper mixer that will last you several years, than spend money on a cheap mixer that you WILL have to replace in a year. And those crossfaders on that cheap mixer are guaranteed to go.

I personally use Rane mixers, and my first one lasted me 9 years without the crossfader ever going out and it was still in good shape when I sold it to upgrade. You can find decent deals if you buy used. There are lots of people that thought they wanted to DJ, bought some equipment and then just sell it later.

Had no idea rane were making dj gear 9 years ago! I have only seen them 'in the loop' within the past 4 years

Yeah, Rane started in the 80's making pro audio gear. The first of the TTM line Performance DJ mixers came out in 1998. I got my TTM 54 in 2000 which lasted me until 2009 when I finally upgraded to the TTM 56.

Rane is based just outside of my city, so there is a lot of their gear floating around here. I have a Rane Graphic EQ and a Parametric EQ in my studio and they are rock solid.

Looking to get a sylus + cartridge for one of my decks now, the other has a good condition orofon dj. Just wondering what you thought of the stanton disc master and diablo? which one is better im leaning towards diablo because the site says it can take heavy abuse from a beginner.

I feel you on the money situation. You have to get something to get you rollin' and I'm sure you got a good deal on that mixer.

That Rane Empath is a nice mixer. I've played on them a couple of times and they're real nice. There's even a rotary knob version for all the old school heads.

As far as those needles, sorry couldn't really say as I've never used them. I've always been a been a Shure person and a lot of people around here are using to 44M's to run their Serato setup.

It was sick for like 125 american, I almost bought it with my paycheck the other day but held out... I cant remember what it was too save me though!!!
