New to the Dubstep scene

Post by Chim3r6 » Sat Jan 16, 2010 8:14 pm

i've only started listening to dubstep recently, and i'm totally in love with it.

I wanted to know if there are any fundamental tracks that i must check out? I'm looking for what may be considered as "the best" or even "classic" dubstep tracks

thanks!

listen to Ultrablack, then listen to 2562, then find where in the spectrum you are and dig dig dig.

Digital Mystikz - Neverland has never been bettered.
"...that’s what I like about dubstep. You can do something really abstract and get away with it. You could even do a big vocal dubstep tune and get it in the charts. Except then you’d get people jumping on it – for now people are only in it for the music." Skream August 05

took me far to long to appreciate that track. over the past 8-12 months ive greatly expanded the styles of dubstep i listen to. a year ago i wouldve called Pinch, Instra:mental, Kode9, Untold, and Pangaea boring. Back then it was all about the high octane agressive stuff, and althogh i still enjoy bash-your-head-in sets im glad ive found even more music to listen to.

don't bother with the caspa and rusko fabric mix for too long. it's mostly full of pish tunes saved by a couple of absolute gems (quest's forever is a fine example of an absolute peach).

you're better getting the first few dubstep allstars CD's. vol 02 is advisable.

for individual tunes try some of these:

Pangaea - Router (newest tune of the bunch. one of my favourites. one to watch out for!)
Digital Mystikz - Ancient Memories (loved the Skream remix too)
Mala - Lean Forward
Burial - Wounder (most of his material is a lot more chilled than anything else)
Vex'd - Smart Bomb
Kode9 - 9 Samurai
Skream - Midnight Request Line
Loefah - Rufage
Coki - Mood Dub (or Goblin if you want mad wobbles [or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni8ewxbmKJ0 )

check out a lot of mixes from a long time ago as well.

apply the principle of Tao:

"If someone asks about Tao (dubstep) and someone else responds, then both of them don't know Tao (dubstep)"
