So i've been a 1200 owner for about a year. I got shure whitelables that are about 5 months old. However on the left deck, when I try to cue at a bass heavy or kick heavy cue point, when I rock it back and forth it is skipping grooves....it skips back a few grooves.

I don't think it's the needle or stylus b/c I changed those and it is only happening on the left deck. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

I think the actual platter might mvoe up and down verticaly while I'm rockin the cue.....any tips or ideas would be helpful.

take out the turning part of the table and ensure every thing is clean and dust free

it should just pull out with the 2 holes under the slip matt

b careful tho on some models there may be 2 screws holding the platter in place

check your anti skate .... qbert has a good tutorial on how to set it on one of his DIY dvd's

check the swing arm isnt bent

check the cart is aligned properly unless they're ortofons

and check the swing arm ride height is very low this will help stop them jumping when u cue up

Sounds like your record hole is too big. If you can hear or feel it tapping around on the spindle you can do a quick fix taping small peices of paper from one side to the other thru the hole.
Maybe you dont have enough weight on it. Maybe the anti skid needs adjustment.

This... it could also be a bunk vinyl, if bass sounds have big panning the grooves can get deep pocks and upward bumps... Have to tested it with other vinyls, or is it just one?

Hey man got a vestax 2300mk2 of e bay and i hear like a clicking noise is this what you are talking about when you say tapping. The pitch speeds up and slows down when i play a record and I think this has something to do with the platter and clicking noise. Is this anything i can fix easily? Probably the motor so that mother fucker is gonna have to give me my money back.

Play with the counterweight your tonearm is not set properly.

it does it on multiple records on multiple cue points.....i just tested the most recent record it's been happening on and I can feel the hole moving side to side on the record....there is some play. I adjust the coutner weight and tone-arm every week or so, so I'm not thinking its' that.

I need to do some more troubleshooting with these ideas and I'll see what goes down. Thanks for all the tips.

the tonearm is set too light - hence it pops out at the extreme bass. u need to increase the weight so it stays in the groove.

I know how to set the weight and tonearm and antiskate. after more trouble shooting I'm pretty sure it is actually one of the styli.....like the little metal knob on the end of the needle styli is worn down.

I found a spot on a record it was happening on, switched the entire needle from deck to deck and it stopped. Placed record on other turntable and it was present again. Switched the styli out and the problem followed.

Looks like I need new styli...

Put a Rizla on your middle spindle - Place record on top. Fixed. Thats an old trick that works wonders with scratch recs as well

Place the rizla resting on top of the spindle, then carefully put the record over the rizla and ontop of the spindle. Instant scratchability
