Yet more questions about cutting dubs...

Before everyone shouts at me, I've searched through everything I could find on here and DOA and I tried PMing Jason a week ago and emailing Transition but I've had no reply as of yet... Here's a copy of the email I sent:
After debating it for about 3 years and re-reading everything on the forum about them, I think I'm finally going to take the plunge and cut some dubs. I was wondering as I'm based in Leamington Spa is there any way I could book a time to come and attend the session to perhaps learn a bit about mixdowns etc. Also does that cost more?

As an aside is there also a way of hearing the differences between PVC and Acetate dubs, even though I'm sold on the latter? Even on the internet as MP3 clips (although I guess this makes little sense)?

Oh and finally, do you get a CD of the audio that goes to the cutter or is that extra, assuming that you slightly master the intial mixdown? Could I just record the acetate when it's new in case it wears out too much, so I still have the slightly mastered (and warm) sounding copy of the tune. How much and in what way would this recording differ from the signal sent to the cutter?

Sorry for bombarding you for so many questions, I couldn't find good answers to them on the forum already.
If anyone has any answers, it would be much appreciated as I really want to get them cut but just want to find out a little bit more about what exactly I'm going to be paying all that money for. That doesn't seem unreasonable does it?

maybe try calling down to Transition directly.

I imagine with the influx of people interested in these sorts of things their inboxs are filling up and it's probably hard to weed through who's serious and who's wasting their time.

Good decision.

There is a slight difference, which is hardly noticeable in the club. I prefer PVC plates as they last much longer and the cue points don't wear out that much. Also you will carry less weight with them.

It is possible to record the fresh plate, makes sense if you have good needles and a nice converter. Definitely makes a big difference to the original file, in the end it is exactly what the dubplate sounds like, and that is all the reason you are cutting it, right?

Cheers for the info pete. @prisoner, I'll try calling them this week and see what happens.

Edit: The tune in my sig is one of the tunes I'm going to cut, anyone have any comments on how well it'll translate? Does it need drastic changes? I've played it out a couple of times off CD and it sounded OK but it was pretty difficult to tell really...

Could you send a .wav snippet?

just in looking at that waveform, if that's the unmastered version, you're not leaving the mastering engineer much space to do his work.

if that IS the mastered version, go for it.

Yeah, that's my mastered version but of course I'll take the unmastered .Wav with me. I'll up a little .Wav clip of it now, if you could have a listen pete/Sharmaji and let me know that would be wicked!

I unfortunately don't have much experience with vinyl, but the track is really cool!
