Artists and labels who do not even want to listen!

I have been in contact with quite a few labels/ artists trying to get them to have a listen even before I had even sent anything. I am shocked at how many either do not reply or say they do not have time (?) to check out knew artists! I have never contacted these people before, I have not spammed them or anything. I have sent a well written note and am shocked by some of the replies I have received back! to not even say they are busy but send it over and we will try to look at it sometime I thought was quite rude and not a good move for them at all. They could potentially miss out on some good music by people so not a good business move.

I am not taking it personally and put it down to them just receiving so many demos. It is still quite annoying when you have taken the time to get in contact with people who you think would be interested in the style of music you have made.

Its not been all bad, had some nice feedback and interest from some but I hate being ignored:) I felt like sending another message giving them a piece of my mind lol.

Maybe you should, you never know it might work. No better way to get someones attention than yelling at them

Umm, who are you sending them too? You seem to be aiming way to high for the amount of clout you have. There is VERY few labels who're biggish who'll listen to your demo unless they know you the reason of this is simple - to much SHIT dubstep out there.

Aim low, get a small digital label to sign a few tracks - because if even they don't want to sign it then you need to go back into the lab and write more/better tracks.

Yeh like I said it must be because they get so much shit sent their way. But to not even want to listen or check it out seems wrong. I cannot imagine being in a position where I would dismiss something before I even heard it.

I refuse to release music digitally. I have been mixing vinyl for many years and have never played a CD in my life. I have only just started sending things out but if I dont get anything released I will just do it myself. Its not hard or expensive and would be fun. Shit, if I did I would also start a night while I am at it.

You forget that some people just like LISTENING to music, releasing on vinyl cuts out about 60% of your potential sales cause unless you're STUPIDLY popular or the release has a lot of buzz around it, people won't buy your stuff just to listen to..

I think you've gotta get glued on the how the music industry works these days and don't be such an elitist.

Vinyl worthy lol. Have you heard how much shit is being released on 12"?

Tbh I have not given out anything new to people I do not know for a while and I like to think I have moved on since I did. Luckily I have some big name artists who are being cool and up for playing stuff out. Hopefully with that weight behind me things will get easier.

I dont understand how some people can dismiss something without even hearing anything at all. They dont know if it is shit or good, they dont care.

I remember Burial had the same problem with labels who jogged him on without hearing, their loss now.

Also, there is nothing wrong with aiming high. I aim high with everything I do and I believe I will get what I want if I want it enough.

if u think your production is good enough, try to be original even in the way you send things out...

burn a cd, decorate it... include a cookie, boots gift card... use your imagination. i reckon u ll increase your chances dramatically if the label receives a real cd, something physical...

I did think of something like this. But like I already said, some of them do not even want things sent! I did not just send files/cds to people without speaking to them first. I thought it was best to make contact.

Not everyone was like that, just a couple. Got good response from the majority luckily. I think some people are just not interested in new artists or playing other peoples music. Maybe they have enough of their own, maybe they have lost interest, who knows.

well think about it : suppose they get 50 tracks everyday... 49 of them are shit... and then again even if the one left is not, what are the chances it is the next burial or at least a worthy artist.... 50 tracks = 250 minutes of listening... i bet they just cant be arsed to listen to everything, they ll rather accept someone who is recommended by their mates, or is too original to throw away)

Most people are cool.

Some big names have been really cool with me and I wont forget them. Its the smaller people who seem to think they are too big in the game.

This kind of practice is normal, I'd think myself lucky to even get a reply.

Like Timg said, use your imagination when sending things out. Get some cool packaging printed up or something.
