Im trying to record a vinyl mix onto my laptop going from the master out on my mixer into my external soundcard which goes into my laptop and also into my speakers, why does it sound so shit? http://dnbshare.com/download/mix1.mp3.html

Good be some of the following:

- shitty soundcard, get a better one.
- wrong driver installed.
- audiocables defect.
- mixer outputs dirty or defect, clean them.
If thesde don't work i really don't know.. Good luck!

check if your mixer has a 'record out'
check the cables
check for any clipping in the process

What softwares doin the capture from your soundcard? Sure you have he right input, and not a built in PC mic or one from in your wiring somewhere? I always tend to forget to change my input back from pc mic to soundcard after I use skype...

How hot is the signal going into your soundcard? it sounds like your over-driving it. Try at half volume, that way, if record as a wav you can do some post editing on it, and make it all crisp and clear.
