With their début record, Matta bring the excitement back to dubstep. Shifting genres, adding weight, sharpening the production: this young duo come up with an immense three tracker that taps in a variety of style and unite influences into an enormous and coherent release. Not for weak soundsystems, but clearly for all bass addicts.

The English duo Matta signs first outing of the year of the eminent German label Ad Noiseam. The Lost is their first EP, and suggests the best for these two young Britons. 
One great violence, dubstep Matta reaffirms the affiliations of its kind with the drum 'n bass and breakcore. The breaks explode as bursts of submachine synthetic, giving rise to chaotic industrial settings where machines have clear advantage. As describing the motion of a relentless grinder, low viscous crunching clash in the limit of endurance. 
"You enjoy torture" Assen voice on Inquisition part III, a statement full of insight. But the sound of Matta, not content to be highly effective, holds undeniable melodic qualities.

If Part III Inquisition unleashed a flood of frantic breaks and menacing, the splendid Suicide Stutter begins by laying layers of melodious, leaving to develop a broad and deep beat. Sometimes it is silent, allowing groundwater to infiltrate the air, then resumed his pace, while syncope. Nugget Third, the huge open Mass on string arpeggios a little gypsy, and let rise singing of a gypsy woman, a disconcerting beauty. With such a chant mixed with heavy bass and dubstep saw the outcome was far from certain, but Mass is quickly reveals unstoppable.

The two partners of Matta and deliver a maximum hot and nasty dark one. And even if we avoid broad conclusions after a hard three titles - especially as the thunder of breaks may be less digestible in long format - we keep the future a more attentive eye on these two guys.
