sadly, it was a seagate that did the doodoo. :(

so i have two options right now.

i can take the loss, and get another drive (it was only 7 mos. old...still warranteed). or i can have my superman tech friend crack 'er open, void the warranty, but possibly recover some of my files (keep in mind a large part of those files were wavs for use in ableton with hours and hours of work already put in warping the tunes...thank god a good chunk of them were already on the laptop drive).

so i put up a poll! y'all can help me decide!

you should definitely be able to recover some, most or all stuff.

my problem is that my puter (any puter we have tried) cannot recognize the drive anymore. so not sure that software will work. what were you guys' experiences with hd failure?

there's loads of programs out there that you can have a rummage around the drive with, in fact most of the companies offering data recovery services just use programs that're either freeware or 30-50 quid to get yourself

give RecoverMyFiles a go, geezer at work got back 50-odd gigs worth of stuff from a knackered hd. it'll work even if your computer doesn't recognise the drive as a drive, although i think the file structure is lost so you have to know each individual filename that you're looking for. you can't search for or restore an entire folder, but can do it for each individual file within the folder. i think.
