Police question

Post by hayze99 » Sat Feb 20, 2010 6:27 pm

Basically, I got stopped in the tube (Farringdon on a Friday at 11pm - remember that Londoners) by a dog yesterday, because I had a little spliff in my jacket pocket. He asked if I had anything on me and since he would clearly find it I just said, yeh, I 've got a spliff in my jacket pocket. He looked and it wasn't there. He says to me, well, guess it's your lucky day, you must have already smoked it and let me go. I then found it about 5 minutes later in a baccy pack. Didn't get a warning, just a peice of paper saying you've been stopped by the coppas.

Basically, my question is, if you think the cops will find your stash, is it better to just admit it? If you lie and then they find it, can they put more charges on? Should you just say that you'd like to stay silent? I was thinking about just saying 'I'd like to exercise my right to remain silent', but I was drunk and chatty, and isn't that pretty much the most suspicious thing you can do?

In the UK (doesn't apply back in Spain), considering I'm a skinny, white student, I don't pretend to be all badmans and I just cooperate and joke around with the police, in the hopes that they'll just let me go. Except for this one time when my French mate got arrested and the guy was saying a ton of racist shit. In Spain they're all self-righteous stnuc, so it doesn't really work the same way.

But I've been caught a couple times and being nice about it has gotten me off the hook 100% of the time.

Funnily enough, straight after I went to Fabric, and while the bouncer was searching me was like - 'I just got searched by the cops, and they didn't find anything; don't think you will', and he goes 'yeh, the police are shit; I had 700 euros in my wallet the other day and they didn't even find that' and being drunk as fuck I replied 'yeh, they just searched me a minute ago and didn't find----- *blank stare*'. The bouncer just laughed and let me through.

What do you guys do?

There's a certain point after which, depending on the circumstances, lying is a bad idea. If you're about to get to caught with some shit that'll put you away for years, though, well...

All that being said, being polite can go a long way. A friend of mine once got a ticket for possessing a knife and had to pay like a $900 fine. I got caught with a knife later that year and the judge gave me a $25 fine because I made it a point to seem as articulate and polite as possible when I explained the situation to him.

It's always in your best interest to just be polite and if you do have something (that's not extremely well hidden) to just say that you do. They're much more likely to be nice to you if you are to them.

If you piss them off they will nail you. For swearing if they have to. Bastards.

My mate had it before in a pub garden where a dog came along and just sat down next to this table and after a few minutes an undercover police officer came out of nowhere and asked if any of them had any drugs on them. Unfortunately he had some coke and a few joints but being the clever bugger he was told the officer 'I'll be honest mate, i've just come from my house where i did have a joint which is why your dog caught on to it bu i haven't got anything on me' Police officer believed him and just took the dog and went somewhere else. LUCKY BASTARD!

I know you're joking, but, man, cops have guns and they're not exactly unwilling to just shoot people for little to no reason.

The police have power, but they're people too. If you act suspicious, you are suspicious, and if you're honest, things will go a lot easier for you.

Telling them nothing isn't the same as telling them lies. If they ask you straight out, then you've either got to try and say nothing without them reading "SEARCH ME, SEARCH ME" between the lines, or you've got to just own up.

Tbh, for a spliff, they would've just taken it and sent you on your way.

What did they stop you under out of interest? If it was for "prevention of terrorism" then the European Court of Human Rights deemed it illegal last month despite the Home Secretary telling the Met to carry on doing it... if you get stopped without proper cause in future let the policeman know he'll be taking a trip to Strasbourg if he carries out his search!

a huge huge lesson I have learned with police

never treat them as if they were human, because they are not

never say shit. unless you have the spliff in your mitts and the cop is staring right at you I'd be like you can go fuck yourself. Might make him pull all sorts of asshole shit at that time, but in the long run complying is where you get fucked in the courts when you are fighting whatever charges he has on you.

mixing being "nice" with being "lucky" is different. also, were all your mates who were "nice" to police, white?

I like to drive fast, and I've been pulled over by a physical police officer (not counting photo radar tickets) 6 times but given a ticket twice. I do the same thing you do: Don't be all pannicky, be jovial and lighthearted and try to brighten up their day and treat them like a human and sometimes they'll see the humanity in you and let you off w/ a warning.

Excellent tip for avoiding problems with the police:

i was once smoking a joint with two mates in a park, i had about a quarter in my pocket, and another mate had gone to take a phone call. Next thing he knows a cop is shining a light in face, saying "dont move dont move, we know whats going on" etc etc. he's so far away from us we dont have any idea whats going on, and carry on smoking and whatnot.

now when i smoke, i like to talk about science and interesting shit. so as (unbeknownst to me) the police are sneaking up on us, im discussing string theory and time paradoxes. All the while with a decent amount of drugs in my pocket and a fat spliff in my hand.

police: "WHATS GOING ON HERE, NOBODY MOVE"
me: "nah mate, cuz the very natutre of the atoms means...oh sorry officer"
police: "oh...im sorry lads, i thought...never mind"

:D
My name is Dom and I like making ambientish music and drinking tea. Nice to meet you.

Always carry stuff in a bag tied by your crotch and you will pretty much never get caught unless they search you down at the station.

If you have something in really un-shady place like your pocket its probably better to just own up when they ask

Got stop by the police while i was on bail couple years back, was about 3am just been bombing so had a bag full of cans and hands were covered in paint, this fed car pulled up next to me and he asked what i was doing out at this time in the morning, just said that i was coming back from a mates, then he asked " have you got anything on you you shouldnt have" just said no, so he asked me to empty my pockets ( had a marker in one ) emptied them for him managing to do it with out pulling out my marker (didnt even ask to check my backpack, thank fuck), so he says "allright then mate" and let me on my way

Fucking shit myself, thought i was gonna end up going jail

I think when it comes to weed its better to just be honest about it. Then again, unless you have over an ounce on you here (and/or the intent to sell), you'll more than likely just get it taken away and get no ticket
