sorry this is off topic, but i'm looking to buy an mp3 player and wanted to see what you guys would recommed. 16gb apple ipod nanos are around 180 u.s. dollars, but i'm thinking an apple alternative would be the way to go. any decent (and decently priced) suggestions?

im in love with anything small as a USB stick, that my computer reads like a USB stick, but it has a headphone jack

...
29.99 at walmart for like 12 of em, haha... I can send you a couple if you want, I have too many, lol...
Seriously though, is thier some kinda major sound difference between those kiinda deals and these big boy iPods and Zunes n shit? I listen to somethin huge through mine n then through my boys zune, swear mine sounds better, but it might all be in my head, idk... Like, the mp3 I compared with was Dayn - Ears off... so if I was gonna hear a difference id think it would be on a tune like that, n really, I think I did hear a stepping down...

was wondering the same thing, basic. i'd imagine the apple models are just more expensive cos you know, it's apple, and they have the little apple logo on it, but i could be wrong. i'll check out the ones at wal mart tho. and if anyone has any other suggestions please hit me up. not looking for anything too fancy, just something for when i go for a run or working out. and i'd like to keep it cheap, but still have something that's not a complete piece of crap.
thanks

Did you use the Apple buds to listen on? Because those buds are terrible, like even worse than chinese knockoff terrible.

Nah, i have a set of Sony MDR-V150s I use for like mp3 player toting n stuff, Im wondering if it might have been a difference in max volume comin out of the Zune that mightta tricked my ears... I mena, if its that +/-1db difference, Id probably hear it when Im used to one model over the other, thats why Ive alwyas been sceptical and thought Id ask here...

Two 4 GB Centon moVex 's = just under 40 american at a walmart, n then Im not as broken when one of my little bastard family members takes off with em.... The stick players never have fancy wheels n screens n shit though, shit does make navigatin through 4 gigs of music easier...
Still be curious if thiers a quality difference between one mp3 player and another though...

I've got an old 60 gig ipod. I use it for working out and listening in the whip. Truthfully, I think it sounds like shit. Also, to my uninterested in figuring out another way, you've got to use it with itunes. But let me say this - I've dropped this thing a million times, like 4 foot drop onto the street while it's playing and it still works. I don't know how, but it is still going. It is very easy to navigate music, I do it while I'm working out, it has a great shuffle. It helps me evaluate new tracks. It's got a rating system, that I've adapted for dj'ing purposes. I can use those ratings to create playlists, that I can bring directly into traktor. Pretty nice set of features, bro. And you know I'm no apple o'phile.

I got a 8 year old 256mb unbranded USB stick-style one what cost me about 20 quid when it came out.
I had a few big brand mp3 players but the sound quality on this one was superior.

i spent so much time researching these things, and ultimately went with the ipod because it claimed to play wavs.
but when i try to put wavs onto it, is drastically reduces the file size - indeed it appears to be converting them to 128kbps mp3s. bullshit.
fuck apple, man.

The Sansa ones are great. Samsung makes some nice ones as well. I use the Sansa Clip the most because it's very very tiny without sacrificing storage space. I've never been interested in having 40GB of music on one, but they make some like that as well.

get an ipod!!
I've never had any problems with them.. I've had many problems with other brands tho.
iPods are dirt cheep compared to what they use to be.. 16GB is a hell of a lot.. definitely more than you'll use in one sitting!
I've dropped both my nano and touch in water and they both still work perfectly fine!
..play it safe and get an iPod

does anyone know if you can make the sony nw-a808 drag n drop so you don't have to use the shitty sony sonicstage software? googled it but not found anything of note.
managed to kill my mp3 player so need to nick the gf's one that she never uses

but don't wanna deal with sonicstage.
