I would assume it's to seal a cable whole of some sorts, or left over sealant for the cone.

hmmmm...
to keep the little cone stuck on properly? Some cones don't have em.

Yup, alot of speakers have the solder points right there, n then they seal em afterwords to keep the accoustic pretty... that was my impression at least.

It's where the copper wire that's wrapped round the voice coil terminates (positive and negative). On some speakers it's hidden behind the cone on others it comes out below the speakers dust cap

Exactly. But the wires ARE the voice coil, wound tightly some thousand times or so. 'Lil correction there, they don't wrap around themselves, heh. As they are energized by the amp, they move away and to the magnet at the end of the coils, speed depending on the frequency of the signal (fast= higher pitched, slow= teh woblz!). The thick ends that look like teardrops (wires covered in some sort of black epoxy to hold them) run to the terminal posts(+ and -), which in turn run to the amplifier, either onboard or outboard.

^^yep 100% right. That was what I was trying to say, but I was a wee bit drunk when I posted the reply so it came out a bit wrong haha!
