logic automation nodes

Post by sudden » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:29 am

sorry noob question . Was wondering about the automation in logic. It frustrates me when i cant make those small automation movements. For example, im running albino and I want to automate one of the 5 stage delays or w/e when i try to pencil it in it will start at 0.001sec, then i want to drag it to 0.0200 but I drag it up one notch and it jumps to 0.0797sec then to 0.1584sec. These jumps are WAY to drastic for me and its annoying the begeesus outta me ! zooming in wont help either! Im assuming there must be a way to input the value of your node?

I hope this made some sense! Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks in advance.

Hey Sudden. When you are working with the automation nodes and the drag isn't fine enough for you, hold down the control key and it should drag incrementally. Note that you must be dragging the node and then press down control because depressing before hand will give you a contextual menu instead. Hope this helps!

hmm I noticed a differnce in the movement of the node while holding down control but it doesnt make it any finer. here is a screenshot.

You noticed a difference in the movement of the node but it wasn't any finer? Are you sure? The node should move up and down much more slowly and incrementally with control pressed. One problem could be that you are attempting to get too fine with the control and Logic's automation track works on a 0-127 scale and it is approximating to your Albino control. Is there a way you can scale down the delay to a narrower range? Perhaps you can assign a span of the delay to a macro within Albino and automate that instead for a finer control.

If none of that is working for you, then there's a real pain in the ass method you may use to manually enter a number for the node. You'll want to have the midi region selected where the automation is taking place and right-click the region to bring up a contextual menu. In there, under Automation, is the option to "Move Current Track Data to Region". This will put the automation inside the midi region and the events will be listed in the Event window (click on Lists in the upper-right corner and then be sure the Event tab is active) as Fader events. There will be a column titled "Val" that stores Logic's value for the automation which will be from 0-127. From there you may double click the number to edit it, however if you can't get this working with just the control key the knob's range may be too wide for Logic to handle. To move the automation back into the track select from the same menu "Move Current Region Data to Track".

Without having Albino in front of me, it's hard to determine what other work around you could use. Perhaps use a delay from Logic's bank instead?

Yeah, as i dragged the node up it moved more in a more incremental way but it didnt allow me to make any finer adjustments. It moved how you describe but not finer. Yes
I think your right, I am trying to get too fine of adjustments abnd no there really isnt a way to scale it down , but I guess I could try that with the macro.

HAha wow, that is a pain, but at least it lets me get specific. Ill try all that youve suggested, Im sure it will work now.
thanks!
