dear dubstepforum.

seems this soundcloud thing is the way to be heard here (and it is, i must say, very convenient). and since my last post got coldly neglected, i'm giving it another try. below, find the track hide shit plus text from my other post. if you enjoy the sounds, check more at the myspace page. peace!

Soundcloud

----------

i'm new here. got word this is a nice place.

broken boys is a swedish dubstep duo consisting of me, rocking time (http://www.myspace.com/rockingtimemusic), and my kid brother, oskarp (http://oskarpersson.blogspot.com/). i mainly make music, he mainly paints (broken boys is more or less a construction to be able to say we have a "band" together). we would very much appreciate any feedback/constructive criticism on our music, which, of course, we are very proud of.

please listen at http://www.myspace.com/brokenboysmusic.

run riot records were kind enough to write some very long and quite beautiful sentences about our music at http://www.runriotrecords.com/2010/01/3 ... eakin-who/, of which this one stands out: the music they stir can accomplish that most rare of inversions; the boys have created a music which can hear you. say what?

best regards

Like the deep vibes and some of the percussion and sampling, but the bassline seems like an afterthought and I can't find any sub bass really. That's my only criticism really.

Keep at it though!

thanks for feedback. regarding the sub bass: i'm coming to this type of music from a lot of different music styles, none of which bass in general or sub bass in particular is the main ingredient. so i guess i favor the sounds of the mid range. to me the cluttered mid range, the wall of sound as spector once put it, can be the main force of music.

but again, i really appreciate the feedback! i i'm glad you enjoyed at least parts of the song...

i agree, great tune, needs more bass. keep in mind your on a dubstep forum - and dubstep is all about the bass :) im sure it will still sound clean with a nice smooth sine wave bass with a slight square LFO on the filter at 2/4 or 1/4. take away any res and it shouldnt damage any of your mid range.

sageone, thanks! will work on the bass. will try out your recommended synth settings...

but i disagree about dubstep being all about the bass. it's like food: meat may be nice but we also need the potatoes and the vegetables, right?

i hear that, but what i mean to say is dubstep is based (no puns intended) on bass as the main ingredient. just like breaks/jungle is all about the crowded drum patterns. now dont get me wrong, if somebody wants to jump off the bandwagon, by all means go for it - seen lots of people stray from what people consider to be elements of dubstep. but for dubstep, i think bass is the #1 ingredient. just sayin

and that completely fine. each to their own. guess i'm trying to jump off a bandwagon i have actually never really been on. can you do that?

interesting discussion though: to me pure sound (may it be low, mid or hi) is of great interest and very important to a piece of music. just saying there's gotta be more (melody, chord progression, rhythm, feel...), and to me breaking the forumla (like my bloody valentine, ditching the bass guitar on several girls galore, resulting in that strange feeling) can be eye opening.

i agree this would be so much sicker if the low end 40-60hz was filled out

ok, i'm choosing to interpret the critique in a positive way, aiming more for the headphones than for the dubstep set. still, the future will see me working on the low end...
