Switching Dubstep/Breakbeat..

Post by schema » Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:00 am

what do you think of tunes that switch between dubstep & breakbeat? a useful tool for mixing or just a ball ache that should be one style or the other?

Here's a clip of our remix of Cut La Roc - Looking for the deep bass as example...

EDIT: it's out now on beatport if anyones in it

I love it - both beats are tight!
I've noticed lots of times when dubstep producers try and switch over to breaks in-song the snare they use is not short enough so it sounds SHIT. And usually the break is an afterthought...I like your tune because it's a nice balance.

ha, actually we're starting a new Party series this month with a Breaks vs. Dubstep theme. Both work together well but you gotta play the Breaks tunes at a pretty fast tempo.
also like Breaks/Dubstep hybrids, like the ID 12" on Passenger or the latest Vent 12"es. I wish there was more of that kind of stuff around.
That remix is tight too, Schema, big ups!

I've been waiting for someone to start a thread such as this.

It's great to see breaks and dubstep crossing over, most of High Rankins breaks tunes fit nicely into dubstep sets, Sub Slayers as a label crosses the two vibes very effectivly imo.

Most of our dubstep tracks have breaks in them, I find with dubstep it allows more space to use proper breaks within the frame work of the groove.

It's all bass music at the end of the day and it's great to see it all meshing together.

Jinx & Mark - nice to see you on here more these days.

I was a breaks head long before i was a dubhead, the crossover thing really appeals to me as a result...

for my money, the mans to watch in this arena are VENT (one of Dc breaks & someone else), check their january mix:
