Going to nights sober

After a particularly sketchy weekend where i ended up in A&E, i've decided i need to cut out everything. Just out of interest, does anyone on here to go to any nights completely sober? Obviously you shouldn't need anything to enjoy the music if the DJ is good enough, but what about the general atmosphere? Is it actually enjoyable to be out until 5/6ish surrounded by people of their face?

Yeah it can be fun, usually if I'm playing out, I'll go out in the car so don't touch anything.

As long as you don't keep mulling over it in your mind (that you're sober and everyone else is fucked) you'll be fine.

Seeing people so fucked may actually help you not want to aswell tbh.

I am also living the sober life. When you are sober, the scene is more fun if you hit the parties where they are all about the music. Outdoor events, festivals, concerts, and large type events "usually" have less open drinking.

I am sober when i go to events pretty much 100% of the time (occassional beer) and i still enjoy it proper loads but you do have less energy than you would if you weren't sober.

Just don't even think about not being on anything and just enjoy the music :).

Good choice man, way too easy to end up dependable on chemicals bridging the gap and wasting the first 2 hours searching for the worst 'beeenz' of your life

Yeah, it can be done.

I’ve always had an on / off relationship with chems and usually just have a few drinks when I go clubbing. It makes you more critical of the music but that’s a good thing - if it’s really good you’ll still get into the hypnotic state. You just don’t get into a situation where you’ll dance to any old crap because your mind isn’t your own.

The main advantage is that you don’t feel terrible the next day…or the next day…or the day after that. In fact, dancing all night without getting fucked up actually means you go back to work feeling pretty good about everything. That’s the main reason I don’t indulge very often.

Only been clubbing once or twice without even having a beer or two. Still danced and had a good time on those occasions though. You shouldn’t cut yourself off from the music you love just because a lot of other people at the club are going to be off their tits. You'll fit in as long as you're having a good time.

Not knocking people who get high by the way. I've done my fair share of everything in the past and will probably be horrendously drunk / stoned / who knows most of the weekend at Bloc.

Its also good to go out with people who are also going to be sober for the night.

i dont really mind either way. though i find if i'm totally straight i cant hack it through till the end. its normally a 3 finish. i'm not anti drugs, to be honest i probably take something most times i go out. thoughif i'm sober i often get really irritated by the other people that are there. noone likes drunk/pissed people when theyre sober. its funny for a bit but then it just gets on your tits.

Become the designated driver and you'll be surprised how much fun you can have.

Might not get wasted, but you wont have a raging hangover and your call if you want McDonalds on the way home :D

You'll look at your friends in a totally different light and wonder to yourself if you were like that when you're fucked.

It seems when I go out sober I appreciate the music much more. When I'm drunk I spend most of the night tripping over stuff and trying to pull. When I'm sober I sit there and listen.

I usually go completely sober and return completely sober. I don't drink. Its not that i'm against it or anything like that but just prefer the taste of soft drinks i guess. To be honest i find it better this way. I can remember the night in its entirety when i get home and can also make decisions on the night knowing i am completely sober and able to understand the consequences. I sort of think if your relying on drink as your only way to enjoy a night out then somethings not right. :)

Lately it's maybe 3 beers maximum and if I'm playing, only one before hand.

As someone mentioned, these days I proper vibe off the music. A few years ago tho' I was as fucked up as the next person  If I'm round a mates place, all bets are off. Might have something to do with things being a lot cheaper sat on a couch...

Yeah i've done that far too many times. Not cool being laughed at when you've fallen over because you tripped up on a random step in the middle of the dance floor.

I usually get proper wasted for the nights I'm not that interested in (but still want to hear loud music & enjoy the atmosphere) but calm it down for the nights and DJ's i want to remember the day after.

I've been thinking about this a load since DMZ last weekend.

I literally can remember fuck-all of the night. Well, bits and peices.

But it can't remember who played what and how banging or otherwise they were. I just remember flashes of "oh yeah I saw Joe Nice" and shit like that, and I'm afraid that I might have just spent most of the night in the smoking area chatting codshit.

But what worries me is that I don't think I can "just" have a few beers.

3 turns into 5.

5 turns into 10.

:(

I used to do the sober clubbing thing all the time... in fact, I still often do if I'm watching hiphop - for some reason a good hiphop set seems to be my cleanest drug!

Uppers are pretty much a rave thing for me... with Dubstep nights, I'm happier a lot of the time just to have a few spliffs throughout the night and to keep the whisky or rum flowing. I've done DMZ entirely straight before... it was wicked. The main problem these days is finding reliable pills!

That said, chewing my face off and staring lovingly at lasers when Tectonic took over The Arches on my birthday last year was quite a special night! Those were DEFINITELY good.
