Anyone else see Apocalypto yet?!

I'm still not sure whether I liked it. Epic: Yes. Gory :Yes. On the edge of your seat:Yes.

Somehow I'm not quite convinced. Maybe because I hate the guy. Who knows?

Then leave your preconceptions at the door init. A good film is a good film whoever it's made by. Plenty of twatty directors out there, you just don't know it as they keep out of the limelight.

You obviously did like it by the sounds of it tho!!

I been waiting to see this for a while..

Are you a christian fundamentalist? Has he stolen your missus? Or did you not like his Scottish Accent in Braveheart?

Personally I think the film looks really f**kin good - about the fall of the Ancient Civilisation in South America - no bollocks Hollywood 'stars' - all indigenous people.

I thought Mr. Gibson was the Christian Fundamentalist...

Doesn't he have part in some exciting new sect of conservative christianity?

I saw Apocolypto, and I thought it was great. Just forget about the director and concentrate on the story. Sure it was directed by an arrogant prick.....but so area lot of movies.

i actually found braveheart quite moving, even though it glossed over many historical facts. what really irks me is the fact that the statue they made of william wallace at the wallace monument in stirling is actually a statue of mel gibson, not wallace. kinda makes that quote in trainspotting about scots being stupid ring true.

There's an extremely fine line between insanity and genius, that can only be told apart by their contribution to society.

btw I liked Apocalypto, good interesting movie.

saw it in berlin on new years day on a hectic comedown. it's brutal. it's grand. i don'ty really care whether he's an anti semite or a catholic as i have no personal axe to grind with melanie gibson. there's more important things in the world to get your knickers in a twist about

Unfortunately racist bigot fuckwad and genius are not mutually exclusive terms.

i read a very convincing article written by a lecturer in South American History (from UCL) explaining how he has conflated aspects of Mayan history and made clear choices to manipulate the degree of their development in order to present the peoples as the noble savage and thus appropriate game for the Spanish missionaries / imperialists

so im not really feeling that!

i reckon it must be pretty stunning visually, and pretty tense etc, i might even go see it, but i do have issue with the re-writing of history in favour of christianity by an idiot on a mission. i also find it repulsive that its presented as 'Mel Gibson's Apocolypto'. shameful
