anyone whose been in the music biz needs to have a read. from a business perspective alone, it's unbelievable.

Obviously digital music formats and the downloading thereof are the future. Apple is the most important force in that market. So pretty much anyone who has or plans to buy, listen to, or play out a digital file any time soon should at least pay some attention imo.

people put convenience before quality, always. It's lazy, but I sure like not having to drive to the nearest music store to buy something I've just heard on an internet radio station. A million others agree.

Its dead true. For home use low sample rates are fine, if your paying for a track and there is audible deterioration within the sound its only then you have a problem. Plus you are buying a lossy format. I mean you can buy flac tracks but they aren't readily available for every song in the world.

once again impatience and convenience are priorities.

all these replies just reiterate exactly what i said, lets pay a dollar for 1 track that u dont own, that doesnt work outside of apple products. that sounds weak...itunes is far from convenient.

i may aswell do all my food shopping at 7-11 cause i am already going there for gas once a week right?

Well, it works for me as a music customer and as somebody with music up on there for sale. I don't care about tracks not playing nice with other hardware or whatever. I'm quite happy with my computers, my iPods and iTunes and I personally find it massively convenient.

I think having the ability to upload it to unlimited iPod devices and on 5 computers at once is more than I'll ever need. It doesn't feel limiting and I don't know why people feel the need to put their music on more than 5 machines anyway. Plus, there's always the Hymm project if you *MUST* set the music free.

As far as shopping at 7-11 for food, I bet there are people out there that wouldn't eat were it not for 7-11. Or drivethrus.

Good for Apple.

I am all for digital distro and convenience.

My main qualm with i-tunes is that the file format they use adds a layer of complexity when transferring media between mediums.

I'm sure Marsyas works for Microsoft.
