Wow, i have just been reading all these posts on here, and I got a feeling cats aren't really feeling the mixing of dubstep with pop music etc. I can completely understand why. There is a respect for the roots of this, and where it comes from. From what I have learned, it's roots are in the U.K.
So, even though I live in the U.S., I have the UTMOST RESPECT for where the music comes from.
BUT, to someone like me, who has never been to England, (although I grew up in Oakland, San Francisco, LA, DC, and Black Rock City; where there are a million and five cats from the UK) I still feel like DUBstep, and alot of this Electronic music's roots are HIPHOP!

Now before yall start yelling at me, just feel me for a second. The first beat I ever heard that sounded like these dubstep beats was Timbaland and Aaliyah (as pop and hiphop as it gets). That is just me, if someone did it before Timbaland, I never heard it. It definitly didn't have the wobble, the chainsaw, or the frequencies like the UK stuff, but the BEATS were hiphop.

It reminds me of the Underground Hiphop scene. Everyone was so anti pop, and anti mainstream, they painted themselves in a corner. When that worked for them, they rode with it, but as soon as people got bored, (and really in my opinion, when the girls were cool on it), even the underground guys started making their music a little brighter and more fun to listen/dance to.

Anyway, where I live Dubstep is still a little new, and alot of people don't like it, and find it dark and boring. I think that's the reason I like mixing in familiar music in with
it, to balance out the power and strength with the beauty and soul.
Our culture is a Dance/Party culture. If the ladies aren't having fun, the fellaz aren't having fun. Believe me, there are a ton of cats out here that dissagree with me, but they are doing it with 10 of their guys friends in the corner! haha! :)

I like it all, from the hardcore grime filth, to the layed back tunes. I can honestly say I haven't felt this inspired by music in a while, and to me it's cuz of the creativity that it's showing!

One love from Black Rock City

oh, one last thing. As you can tell, I'm a Hip-Hop, P-Funk, Soul cat, who learned from cats like Shock-G, Digital Underground, and George Clinton etc. Please don't think I'm coming on here thinking I'm a fulll fledged Dubstep cat. In that world, I'm still a student learning, and taking it all in. I know I'm not on the level of most of these Dubstep producers and DJs, but I'm learning and practicing! I study, and LOVE MUSIC!
I have the utmost respect for what everyone is doing, even if I dissagree, or don't understand it. It's all Art, and it's all opinions on Art.

peace, love and Humptiness forever

don't worry about the roots mate, as garage came from the u.s. and dubstep is just a tiny subgenre of that

:t:
It was brought to my attention that it's sort of disrespectful to call a track (Dubstep Remix), especially to all the cats who have been making true Dubstep tracks, and putting in years of work, heart and energy into it.
I guess our remix is really a hiphop/r&b one, with a lil bit of Dubstep flavor. I guess more of a crossover track.
I meant no disrespect to anyone out there who has been sincerely working with this genre. Actually, I saw a million remixes of Soldier of Love on Youtube, each one with a different rapper rapping over the exact same parts. No change in the beats, alot of cats not even staying on the subject of the song! Some people were even commenting on Sade saying she sold out by having these rappers on her song, like she actually had them do the remix! haha!
Anyway, we just wanted to do something a little bit different, and my little brother Michael (R.I.P.), loved Dubstep; and after he passed away last month, I decided to take a swing at it.

So bigup to all the true Dubstep cats, and bigup to Sade, and bigup to everyone who feels like a Soldier of Love, fighting out here day in and day out..... :e:
