Production Help: Skism - style bass

Hi guys im new to the forum and quite new to dubstep so hello!

I have just started to get into production of dubstep after a couple fo years of making techno.
All my production is done in Reason 4.0
I know how to make your typical dubstep "wobble" bass but I am having issues creating a specific sound, I want to create the same type of bass sounds that Skism uses alot. Really stuttery and aggresive. My bass sounds wobble nicely but I want some a bit more agressive and the sounds Skism produces are close to the sound I am after.
cheers
F

You may want to post an example so people can identify what you want to sound like.

Okay. Nice attitude. Most people on here have heard of him, that doesnt mean that they will be able to recall the exact bass sound you are talking about
If you want to know how to make a specific sound, post in the "Help me make this sound thread" (Try the search function as well, its great. It, like, SEARCHES the whole forum for stuff)

No worries boss, it happens. The Make This Sound Thread is here;
http://www.dubstepforum.com/topic91539.html
Give that a crack, although try and be specific with a track you'd like to emulate (providing a clip helps) as opposed to just requesting a blanket tutorial on a particular producer

Hey, Someone sent me a message yesterday asking how i made the sound used in 'Get A Bit More' and 'The Blank'
If its the same sound you are asking about, this is what i replied to the dude...
1. took a reece from massive with a pretty random lfo to filter on it and bounced it to audio.
2. Loaded it into an ex24 sampler in logic, put an envelope to filter on it to give it an attack.
3. Distorted it, bitcrushed it slightly, then filtered it again with an external filter opening up.
4. I then stuck a really hard flange on the sound which is the key to the sound really, it gives it its motion.
5. Bounced down this whole process and then just eq'd and compressed it accordingly.
All my basses are usually sending some of their signal to a bus with distortion, modultaion fx, and a bit of reverb to make them all sound consistent. and i usually have all the signals bussed again where they are limited or sidechained.
It really is a case of just fucking with stuff like this, there is no set way of doing things....
hope that helps in some way

Hey Skism thanks for that post. That is excellent source of information. One question which may be stupid do you filter the lows on the described and put a sub under it?

ez,
Sometimes if a bass has a fair bit of sub i'll just make a copy of it, filter the highs and boost / compress the sub frequencies. Then obviously take out the lows of the first instance of the sound and make them sit together.
But generally I low cut my basses and have a dedicated synth sub running underneath them all.
