[NYC] 3/30 kode9, fly lo, nosaj
big things on a tuesday night. out to the masses who knew this was one not to miss. and if you missed it, we warned you.
kode9 taking it all over the place for us. swamp005 juggling was out of control. poison dart and 9 samurai were obviously in line with what the people wanted to hear, but out to the man who goes for broke to applaud himself. oh, and if you were lucky enough to score a copy of mark pritchard's elephant dub, you recognized heavy as stone. a personal shout of thanks to the man for dropping that one.
the brainfeeder don did his thing, although the set was kind of short. people weren't having it, calling him back for multiple encores. fly lo comes with visuals now, and if you all have heard the west coast beatsmith shout out dmt before, these stutter and sync, black and white collages sure recall these vibes. oh and was that vancouver under some thom yorke vocals we were blessed with?

ok so kode9 was sick, the crowd didn't seem to get it though, no one was dancing. i thought it was a really good set though, really good. i kept talking to people asking why is no one dancing?! anyway...
flying lotus was not that great in my opinion, it wasnt really music you could dance to.
to tell you the truth though my memory starts fading towards the end of kode9, but I don't remember really digging flylo at any point during the set.
anyway, nice work absractsound putting this together, everything ran really smoothly as far as venue, tickets and everything else. never had a bad time at LPR (although the sound could be better)

on the sound tip - we are currently in the midst of some heated noise complaints and so trying to toe the line... working on ways to improve things for this type of night as we speak.. same thing as the "concert vibe" scenario.. hold tight, LPR will get there.
Re: [NYC] 3/30 kode9, fly lo, nosaj
i don't know why people are complaining about the sound. it was the best i've heard in there in a long time on tuesday night. usually lpr is a coin toss with the sound. either its too bright, or too muddy, but that wasn't the case for the show.
kode 9 played a classic set, just like the way he used to on rinse. lots of double drops, and teases. i really really enjoyed how he would wrestle tunes together...from footcrab..to mountain dread march...back to footcrab...then on to the next tune. heavy! kode should play nyc more often. the book reading was eyeopening as well, as it connected a lot of wider issues beyond what is written about in the book.
lotus was lotus. solid set.
great night!
